Prof. Dr. Sahel N. Abduljauwad

Acting Rector of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals


Dr. Abduljauwad holds a BSc degree- First Honor- in Civil Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals in 1978 and received his MSc and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1980 and 1985 respectively.

Dr. Sahel N. Abduljauwad is a professor in the Civil Engineering Department. Dr. Sahel served as Chair of the Civil Engineering Department (1990-1996), Director of Academic Development Center (1999-2002), Dean of Academic Development (2002-2007), Vice Rector for Applied Research (2007-2016), and the Vice Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research. He also supervised the preparation of the first strategic plan of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (2006-2011), and contributed to the development of faculty skills in training, teaching, and evaluation of academic curricula. He was the manager of AAFAQ project for the development of a strategic plan of university education in Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Abduljauwad is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He has published over 100 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Abduljauwad received a number of awards and owned a number of patents in the field of geotechnical engineering and clay modelling applications in engineering and medical fields.
