Research Deanship, in collaboration with KFUPM Technology Transfer, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (TTIE), organized on, Wednesday 9th September 2015, a meeting with Dhahran Techno Valley companies about the Research Collaboration Grant between KFUPM & the companies. In his inaugural speech, Dr. Sahel N. Abduljauwad, Vice Rector for Graduate Studies & Scientific Research, welcomed the attendees and particularly the staff of DTV Companies, and spotlighted on the process of cooperation between KFUPM and the DTV since its inception more than ten years ago when KFUPM found a strategic need to develop its relationship with the industry and realized that its role goes beyond providing graduates to participate in building a knowledge society. Therefore, the idea of creating an institute bearing a local task with a global vision aimed at creating an important global position for the Kingdom in the economically viable industrial researches, innovation and creativity programs.
Dr. Nasser bin Mohammed Al-Aqeeli, dean of the scientific research, in his presentation about the new grant, said that the aim of the grant is to encourage research cooperation between KFUPM faculty, researchers and students on one hand and researchers of DTV companies on the other hand. Moreover, through the promotion of basic research and joint exploration in KFUPM & DTV areas of interest leading to more applied research, which lead to the development of new technologies. Dr. Al-Aqeeli explained the differences between this grant and the granting of other collaborative research, pointing out that this grant is for relatively small and fast projects with a limited budget does not exceed 200 thousand riyals contributed by KFUPM and the company equally. These researches service as nuclei of larger and more practical projects.
At the end of the meeting, Dean of Scientific Research managed an open discussion involved Dr. Iyad Zaharnah, Director of Innovation Center, Dr. Mohammad K. Alghamdi, Director of Technology Advancement and Prototyping Center, deans, heads of departments and research centers and representatives of DTV companies who attended the meeting.
