On Monday 5 December 2016, HE Dr. Khaled S. Al-Sultan, Rector of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, inaugurated the Open Day for Employment, which is organized by the university from 6 to 9 December 2016.
The aim of the Open Day of Employment, which was held in building 54 and involved a large number of local and international companies, is to make the university students in general, and graduates in particular, acquainted with the job opportunities and available training, and to deepen their knowledge of the nature of business life.
KFUPM has developed successful relationships with society sectors with confidence in the status of the university, its excellence initiatives and high level outputs.
Dr. Al Sultan said, "Attracting university graduates is due to the keenness of the university that the student gets a “college experience, which doesn't rely solely on knowledge, but extends to core skills, values and behaviors, and depends on a unique program of personal skills, volunteer work units, student activities, student exchange programs and international student trips”.
He added, "In preparing students, the university adopted a unique concept: to achieve professional success the integrated student character needs, in addition to modern curricula andjust getting a degree, to gain self and interactive skills and to broaden their prospects, and to make university life a unique experience to guide their future".
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Alojairi, Dean of Student Affairs and Chairman of the appropriate organizing committee, stated that the occasion will enable students to know more about the market orientation, the available training and employment opportunities, and to increase their knowledge of the nature of the renewable and advanced and needs of the labor market.
Dr. Alojairi pointed that the occasion helped new students to form a clear picture of the scientific academic disciplines suitable to their abilities and personal preferences, and to choose a major according to the objective prevailing criteria ofthe labor market and their personal standards, as well as invigorating the distinguished relations between the university and sectors of society.
The Open Day of Employment aims were to define the university courses, educate students for their future careers in various disciplines, provide an opportunity for employers to publicize activities, and strengthen their relationship with the university. It also aimed to educate students in effective jobsearch strategies, and how write a CV and successfully navigatea personal interview.
The students were encouraged to take advantage of this activity and initiate a direct dialogue with the various company and institution representatives to identify the current and future demand volume for the different disciplines.
