Dr. Sami Ahmed Khaiyat is the General Supervisor for Services (Chief Operations & Financial Officer) at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) since 2010. He is an Assistant Professor in the Architecture Department at KFUPM.

Previously, he served as the Assistant Dean for Students’ Affairs in 1997, and Dean of Students’ Affairs in 2000. He was then appointed as the Supervisor for Technical Affairs in 2007.

Dr. Khaiyat obtained his B.Sc. degree in Architecture from KFUPM in 1986. He obtained his Master’s degree in Architecture from California Polytechnic State University in 1989 and his Ph.D. in Architecture from Texas A&M University in 1994.

Dr. Khaiyat’s area of interest is in the field of Architectural Acoustic and Sustainable Buildings. He is a member of various societies, including the Institute IEEE, Acoustical Society of America (ASA), the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (ASHREA).

Supervisor of Technology Transfer, Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Supervisor of Technology Transfer

Dr. Samir A. Al-Baiyat is the Supervisor for Technology Transfer Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Chief Technology Officer) at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) since 2013.

He is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at KFUPM. He is also the Secretary General of KFUPM International Advisory Board.

Previously, he served as the Supervisor of Dhahran Techno-Valley (2011 – 2013), and as the Assistant Supervisor for Public Relations & International Cooperation (2010 -2011). In addition, Dr. Al-Baiyat served before as the Dean of College of Engineering Sciences and Actg. Dean, College of Applied (2002 – 2010). Prior to that, he was the Chairman of the Electrical Engineering Department at KFUPM (1995-2002).

Dr. Al-Baiyat received his B.S. and M.S. from KFUPM in 1977 & 1980 respectively. He did his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame in 1986. His area of interest is Control Systems and its application. He has published many journal and conference papers in his area and authored or co-authored a number of technical reports. He has also received several awards and medals for his outstanding contributions.

Dr. Al-Baiyat chairs the Board of the Saudi Scientific Society of Electrical Engineers since 2003. He was the Chairman of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Saudi Arabian Section from 1997 – 2002 and still continues to be a member in this society. Dr. Al-Baiyat was a member of the Electrical and Electronics Council in the Engineering Committee (1995-1998).

Supervisor of University Relations

Dr. Ashraf E. Al-Fagih is the Supervisor of University Relations & Community Outreach (Chief Communications Officer) at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM).

He is also an Assistant Professor with the College of Computer Sciences and Engineering at KFUPM. Previously, he served as the Assistant Director of the Information Technology Center (ITC) at KFUPM.

Dr. Al-Fagih obtained his B.Sc. in Computer Engineering (with honors) from KFUPM in 2000, and has been appointed, since, as a faculty member to its Department of Information and Computer Science. He obtained his Master of Computer Science degree from Texas A&M University in 2004 and his Ph.D. degree in Computing from Queen's University in Kingston in 2013.

Dr. Al-Fagih’s academic interests include Wireless ad-hoc and Sensor Networks, Delay-Tolerant Networks, Information-Centric Networks, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and the Internet of Things. His research is mainly focused on optimization, placement and routing issues in hybrid wireless architectures. Technical papers peer-reviewed by him were presented in IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials, Journal of Network and Computer Applications, Journal of Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing, IEEE ICC, IEEE GLOBECOM and IEEE LCN.
