Dr. Sahel N. Abduljauwad is a professor in the Civil
Engineering Department and Vice Rector for Graduate
Studies and Scientific Research. He served as Chair of
the Civil Engineering Department (1990-1996), Director
of Academic Development Center (1999-2002), and Dean of
Academic Development (2002-2007). Dr. Abduljauwad
received his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from the
University of Colorado-Bounder in 1985. His research
interests include geotechnical engineering,
soil-structure interaction and environmental
geotechnique. He is a fellow of the American Society of
Civil Engineers. He has published over 100 papers in
refereed journals and conference proceedings. Dr.
Abduljauwad supervised the preparation of the first
strategic plan of King Fahd University of Petroleum &
Minerals (2006-2011), and contributed to the development
of faculty skills in training, teaching, and evaluation
of academic curricula. He is the manager of AAFAQ
project for the development of a strategic plan of
university education in Saudi Arabia.
Prof. Mohammad Saad Al-Homoud is the Vice Rector for
Academic Affairs and a Professor of Architectural
Engineering (ARE) at King Fahd University of Petroleum &
Minerals (KFUPM). He received his B.S. degree in May
1986 from KFUPM, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and M.S. degree
in December 1989 from Penn State University, University
Park, PA, USA and his Ph.D. degree in May 1994 from
Texas A&M University, College Station, TX, USA. Prof.
Al-Homoud worked as the Dean of Scientific Research from
2005-2011, the Director of the Science & Technology Unit
from 2008-2011. He was the Acting Dean of Graduate
Studies from 2007-2008, the Director of the Office of
International Cooperation from 2007-2009, the Director
of the Program Assessment Center at the University since
its establishment in 2003 until 2006.
He published over 40 articles in refereed international
journals and conferences. He supervised many master
theses, senior projects and co-op students. He has
organized and participated in many national and
international symposia and conferences and delivered
several invited keynote speeches and workshops. Prof.
Al-Homoud is the recipient of the KFUPM Distinguished
Researcher Award in 2005, the Distinguished Training
Short Courses Award in 2001, and the Distinguished
Teacher Award in 1999. In additions to his active
contributions in his area of energy management in
buildings and building mechanical and HVAC systems, Dr.
Al-Homoud has been extensively involved in quality
assurance as well as strategic planning in higher
education. He participated in a number of projects on
developing strategic plans at the University as well as
the national levels. He was the chairman and member of
many committees inside and outside the University.
