TRANSPORTATION

ENGINEERING

INTRODUCTION

Transportation Engineering under the Civil Engineering Department has been very active in both applied and scientific research. Transportation Engineering includes the following specialties:

  • Planning
  • Highway design
  • Pavement design
  • Asphalt pavement materials
  • Quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA)
  • Airport pavement design and management
  • Traffic engineering
  • Safety

Faculty members in the Transportation option are conducting various applied research projects which are funded by different governmental agencies such as King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), Saudi ARAMCO, the Ministry of Communications (MOC), SABIC, municipalities, etc. As a result of such research activities, several areas of excellence have been developed including highway safety, traffic management, transportation planning, highway geometric design, pavement design, evaluation and management.
