- Synthesis of metal-organic framework for CO2 storage
In MOF group, we are synthesizing metal-organic materials with large and extended frameworks within which we can store carbon dioxide and other gases. These frameworks will be used as catalysts for various reactions.
The technology of carbon dioxide capture is of great economic and environmental importance because of the CO2 involvement in global warming, natural gas upgrading, hydrogen purification, and so on. The ordered structures, high thermal stability, adjustable chemical functionality and extra-high porosity of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) made them superior materials for CO2 capture and storage. This study is focused on the synthesis and characterization of new MOFs with pre-designed structures and properties. Synthesized MOFs are characterized by a variety of analytical and microscopic techniques including NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. The newly developed materials will be examined for their stabilities and porosities. Selected MOFs with good stabilities, surface area, and structural morphologies will be used for CO2 capture and gas storage measurements. In addition to reducing its greenhouse effects on the atmosphere, the captured CO2 may find utility in the production of value-added useful chemicals, methanol production and enhance oil recovery through the application of CO2-enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR).
