On July 14, 2019, CENT researchers visited “GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research”. The objective of the visit was to explore research facilities, know the fascinating discoveries of elements, and strengthen our collaboration with GSI. It was really exciting to learn about their research goals and technologies developed at GSI using heavy-ion accelerator. GSI, founded in 1969, started its journey on discoveries of elements using Universal Linear Accelerator (UNILAC). Over the past 50 years, GSI scientists discovered six elements; Bohrium (Bh, 107), Hassium (Hs, 108), Meitnerium (Mt, 109), Darmstadtium (Ds, 110), Roentgenium (Rg, 111), and Copernicium (Cn, 112). In addition, GSI confirmed the existence of five elements; Nihonium (Nh, 113), Flerovium (Fl, 114), Moscovium (Mc, 115), Livermorium (Lv, 116), and Tennessine (Ts, 117). The discoveries of these elements, and technology developed for cancer and tumor treatments exhibit their continuous struggle towards success, which really motivates us.
