2. What is the difference between password change and password reset? and which option should I select?
If you know your current password, then use "change password". If you do not know your current password, then use "reset password".
Note that password reset requires your Iqama number or national ID, your personal email address, and your mobile number user information to be up to date.
3. After changing my password, I am unable to log on to my machine.
This may happen if your machine is part of the KFUPM domain. The new password may take up to a minute to propagate through all systems. Moreover, some services may take up to 30 minutes to pick up the new password. However, until then, you can still use your old password to access these services. On Windows machines, once the machine updates its policy automatically, you will be prompted for your new password.
Note: Please ensure that your device (laptop or desktop) is connected to the wired KFUPM network and not to the WiFi network during the password change process.
4. I have updated my information but I am still not able to reset my password.
Once your information is updated, reset password can be done next day.
5. What is the best practice related to passwords management?
1. Do not use the password that you choose for your University accounts with other off-campus services such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIN, Google and Yahoo. This is to protect your KFUPM accounts in case those services are breached or in case your service provider does not encrypt passwords during the authentication process.
2. You must change your password immediately if you notice unusual activity on your system or account. If you suspect that someone is accessing computing resources using your identity, please contact the Help Desk at 3111 or report it on https://edesk.kfupm.edu.sa.

In the self-service password system, you can use Mobile App Authentication to reset your password. If one forgets his password, he can go to ‘reset password’ link and instead of email he can use ‘Mobile Device Verification’ option.
