ENERGY ECONOMICS CHAIR The energy sector, a dominant factor in the national economy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is the driving force in the exploration and production of oil. To reflect the importance of oil for the national economy and the future welfare of the country, the country is in urgent need of an Energy Economics Center (EEC) to provide the leadership and the state-of-the-art techniques in economic analysis and problem-solving that face the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Center’s work which will be relevant for both the private and public sectors of the country will be directed by a Chair holder with a distinguished record of research, teaching and consulting in the field of Economics. Under the guidance, the Center will generate further studies that address the most pressing energy-related problems facing the country. The Department of Finance & Economics at KFUPM is uniquely positioned to play a key role in this development process. To achieve the goals mentioned above, the Department is seeking the financial support of corporate partners (patrons) to fund the establishment of a Chair in Energy Economics. The Chair will catalyze the promotion, research and implementation of current and new research methods in Energy Economics, cement links with other industrial sectors, and provide consulting opportunities and support for end users both inside and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. THE CHAIRHOLDER The potential Chair holder should have a distinguished background in research, teaching and consulting since he will be occupying a Chair that will direct and guide the Department towards excellence in research, business consulting, and teaching in fields that are related to Energy Economics subjects. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHAIRHOLDER
· Offer technical and professional consulting assistance and services to both private and public firms in Saudi Arabia. · Creating and participating in research programs which have a special focus on energy economics trends that concern both Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world in collaboration with other faculty members. · Establishing a newsletter aimed at disseminating new trends in international and local markets and providing technical analysis for practitioners.
BUSINESS CONSULTING
· Consulting with local, regional, and national businesses to provide the necessary support required to establish the optimal energy economic systems in the following areas: the analysis of energy supplies and demands for energy resources; energy pricing and investment energy and environmental impacts; energy trade and developmental policies; feasibility studies of alternative energy sources; and projection of market trends, industry structuring, and regulatory analysis. · Developing, establishing, and guiding training seminars and short courses aimed at bridging the gap between the middle and upper energy economics managers to the cutting edge of new technological innovations.
