The SI units are simply a set of definitions that must be made real by the methods of experimental physics. In metrology (the science of measurement), many of the techniques employed to achieve these accuracies are quite specialised and not well known in other measurement related fields. The SI move to a system based on the fundamental constants of nature, such as the Plank constant h and the electronic charge e.
In this talk, the activities of the National Measurement and Calibration Center - (NMCC) and the Metrological Capabilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be briefly described including the national standards, the technical aspects of measurement and calibration, and the calibration of the measurement instruments. In addition, the seminar will discuss some of the precision measurement techniques that are used to obtain the highest level of accuracy in the SI units. In particular, obtaining the electrical quantities from the Josephson effect will be discussed.
Ismail Abdullah Alfaleh received his Ph.D. degree in Quantum Devices, Condensed Matter Physics from Royal Holloway University of London in 2016. He is currently the General Director of the National Measurement and Calibration Center - (NMCC). He is a member of various advisory committees at The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), and in the Departments of Physics in King Saud University, Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman University, and Islamic University of Madinah. In addition, He is head of a number of technical committees at SASO. Dr. Alfaleh Expert in measurement and calibration in the laboratory of thermal measurement and humidity laboratory in the laboratory of volumes, density, and experience in the laboratory of dimensions and Josephson Standard Voltage Laboratory.
