Dr. Akram F. Ahmed
Assistant Professor, COE Department
The field of computer engineering is one of the most growing fields in the world, but there is some confusion of what this discipline covers and where it lies in the spectrum among other disciplines. In this presentation we will introduce the computer engineering field. Then take you on a walkthrough in the different specializations offered by computer engineering. Finally, we will shed some light on the job market where computer engineers can serve and possible emerging markets that will need the skills embedded in the new curriculum of computer engineering.
Dr. Akram F. Ahmed is an assistant professor in the Computer Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). He received his B.Sc. in electrical engineering from King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, M.Sc. in electrical engineering from University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, USA, and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), Baltimore, USA. Dr. Akram specializes in wireless communications and computer networks. His research interests include application of artificial intelligence in wireless communication, Internet of Things (IoT) and wireless communication with a particular interest in underwater applications.
Dr. Akram has a vast industrial experience where he has served in the industry for more than 10 years. His industrial technical experience is geared towards designing system in which he acted as a design authority, system analyst, system architect, system integration and even took part in the implementation of both hardware and software. In the business side, he mainly concentrated on establishing business processes such as requirement management, bid management, cost analysis and engineering management. Before shifting his carrier to the academia, Dr. Akram was providing consultancy service to various companies in the hospital, industrial and military sectors where the focus was on implementing solutions, managing bids and technology transfer.
Dr. Akram also had a leading role in the digital transformation of curriculum at KFUPM and injection of AI material into all KFUPM undergraduate programs as well as developing university-level programming and AI service courses.
All faculty, researchers and graduate students are invited to attend.
