Abstract:
Arabic social text poses some challenges for sentiment analysis, as Arabic tweets contains a lot of dialectal variants. In addition, Arabic language is morphologically rich and has complex morpho-syntactic rules which make sentiment analysis a challenge task. Moreover, applying sentiment analysis in a new domain problem such as sport-fanaticism, requires a deep understanding of the domain knowledge. It also requires performing a lot of effort for data analytics and feature engineering. In this paper, the fanatic emotions in Arabic tweets are analyzed, and engineered to build fanatic-classification models. Various features were engineered and evaluated such as stylistic features, phonological features, morphological features, syntactic features, and semantic features. In addition, a hybrid approach that combines both a corpus-based method and lexicon-based method was developed, and several classification models are examined.
