Abstract:
Water bottles are highly used by the population, with usage reaching up to 250 Liters per person annually. These bottles, made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), are often disposed of in landfills. This project's main objective is to propose a waste disposal system for closed-loop recycling of 0.5L PET water bottles. Water bottles are collected by a Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) and recycled to produce the PET bottles, where the proposed system will reward the consumers with 0.04 AED per deposit of consumed water bottle. Additionally, this research aims to calculate the cost and carbon footprint of 100% vPET and 60% rPET bottles. The success of such a waste disposal system will reduce waste materials, protect the environment, make it cleaner, drop in the production costs, and provide financial benefits for the end-user, which will all result in more sustainable supply chain.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Wisam Abu Jadayil is an associate professor in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management/ College of Engineering of Abu Dhabi University. Dr. Abu Jadayil has a double major in the industrial engineering/ Engineering Management, and mechanical engineering/ Manufacturing Processes and Materials. He earned his PhD degree from Iowa State University/ United States of America in 2005. He published more than forty research conference and journal articles. Dr. Abu Jadayil has worked as a consultant for many companies in USA, Jordan and gulf region in the areas of industrial management, manufacturing processes and production planning and control. Dr. Abu Jadayil has conducted many training courses and seminars in Jordan, Turkey, Libya and the Gulf region in the areas of project management, supply chain and inventory management, reliability, safety and risk management, instrumentation and control, production planning and control and CAD/CAM. In addition, Dr. Abu Jadayil is a life time member in the Phi Kappa Phi and the Tau Beta Pi organizations.
