Speaker:
Dr. Abdul Jabbar Siddiqui
Assistant Professor, COE Department
Abstract:
Automated Vehicle Detection and Classification (AVDC) based on visual data has received active attention from researchers, due to heightened security concerns in Smart Cities and Intelligent Transportation Systems. In this talk, we present our proposed computer vision-based solutions to address the problems and challenges associated with visual surveillance data-based AVDC. The proposed methods this talk will present are based on: (i) Bag of Speeded-Up Robust Features (BoSURF), and (ii) Deep Convolutional Neural Networks. The effectiveness of the proposed methods will be highlighted and discussed based on evaluations using real-world surveillance datasets. We shall conclude by outlining open challenges and future directions of research in this area, paving the way toward efficient large-scale AVDC systems for smart city surveillance and to chalk out strategies to enhance state-of-the-art technology
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Abdul Jabbar is an Assistant Professor at the Computer Engineering Department of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). Prior to joining KFUPM, he worked as a researcher with the Intelligent Transportation Systems Group at the National Research Council of Canada. He earned a PhD and a M.A.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Ottawa (in 2021 and 2015, respectively). His research interests include: computer vision, intelligent transportation systems, internet of things, cyber-physical systems security, and adversarial machine learning. He is actively exploring innovative applications of visual intelligence and machine learning in solving contemporary problems related to energy, oil and gas, construction and transportation sectors.
All faculty, researchers and graduate students are invited to attend.
