Title: Machine Learning for Cancer Detection and Classification using Medical Images

Abstract:

Machine learning is a subfield of computer science that evolved from the study of pattern recognition and computational learning theory. Some machine learning tools like support vector machine and artificial neural networks have been extensively used to detect and classify cancers using medical images. There have been a resurgence interest to apply machine learning methods in detecting and classifying cancers using medical images with the progress of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) research, a type of neural networks that are specialized designed to deal with image datasets. There have been many works that report CNNs can outperform radiologists in the reading accuracy. In this talk, we intend to discuss some current progress in this area.
