Dear CCSE community.
You are invited to the CCSE seminars series on
Wednesday 18 Sep at 3.30 pm in building 22 room 127. The details of the
seminar are provided below.
Title: Machine Learning for Cancer Detection and Classification using
Medical Images
Abstract:
Machine learning is a subfield of computer science that evolved
from the study of pattern recognition and computational learning theory. Some
machine learning tools like support vector machine and artificial neural
networks have been extensively used to detect and classify cancers using
medical images. There have been a resurgence interest to apply machine learning
methods in detecting and classifying cancers using medical images with the
progress of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) research, a type of neural
networks that are specialized designed to deal with image datasets. There have
been many works that report CNNs can outperform radiologists in the reading
accuracy. In this talk, we intend to discuss some current progress in this
area.
Short bio of presenter:
Andri Mirzal (Associate Professor, ICS
KFUPM) received PhD and MSc in Information Science and Technology from
Hokkaido University (Japan), and BEng in Electrical Engineering from ITB
(Indonesia). His research interests include machine learning, bioinformatics,
optimization methods, web search engine, and linear inverse problems. He won
the National Research Award 2015 in ICT sector from The Research Council of
Oman. He was granted several national level research grants by Malaysian
government.
