Development on Integrated Modeling in Production Planning Quality
Control, Inventory Control, Maintenance and Scheduling in Manufacturing
Processes
Date: Monday, 2nd January, 2017
Time: 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Location: Building 22, Room 134
Speaker:
Dr. Mohammed Abdur-Rahim
Professor of Quantitative Methods
Faculty of Business Administration in the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada
Adjunct Professor in the Systems Engineering Department
King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals
Dhahran, Saudi Arabia
Abstract:
Today's
industry is mainly focused on improving productivity and quality. The
key to success in manufacturing processes is in the proper integration
of Quality Control, Production Planning, Inventory Control, Maintenance
and Scheduling Policy, which have been treated as separate issues until
recently. The proposed talk will present and summarize various
integrated optimization modeling for various production and quality
control problems.
Biodata:
Dr.
Abdur Rahim is a Professor at the Faculty of Business Administration,
University of New Brunswick (UNB) at Fredericton, Canada. He joined the
UNB in 1983 and is a member of the Quantitative Methods area. He
received his B.Sc. (Honors) and M.Sc. in Statistics from the University
of Dhaka, D.S. in Operations Research from the University of Rome, M.Sc.
in Systems Theory from the University of Ottawa, and Ph.D. in
Industrial Engineering from the University of Windsor. He teaches
Management Science, Operations Management and TQM in the BBA and MBA
programs at the UNB. Since 1994, Dr. Rahim has been visiting King Fahd
University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia as a
Visiting Professor in the Department of Systems Analysis and taught
Statistical Quality, Inventory Control and Maintenance. He served as an
Associate Editor of the International Journal of Systems Science,
Quality Engineering, and Engineering Optimization. He is a member of the
Advisory or Editorial Boards for Economic Quality Control, the Journal
of Quality in Maintenance Engineering, the Journal of Quality
Engineering and Technology, and the International Journal of Production
Research. Dr. Rahim has authored and co-authored more than one hundred
research papers in various reputed scholarly journals. He has co-edited
two books on the emerging field of quality control, which were published
by Kluwer Academic Publishers. One book presents a broad survey of
optimization in quality control and focuses on industrial and national
competitiveness; while the other focuses on integrated models in
production planning, inventory control, warranty analysis and
maintenance policy. Positive reviews of these books have appeared in
reputed academic journals. Dr. Rahim supervises several masters and
doctoral candidates at the University of New Brunswick, King Fahd
University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia. Professor Dr.
Abdur Rahim and Professor Dr. Pradeeb Banerjee of UNB have the rare
distinction of having mathematical models named after them as they
together developed Rahim-Banerjee Models in Statistical Process Control.
All faculty, researchers and graduate students are invited to attend.
