Abstract:
This seminar aims at providing
the ISE students (both graduates and undergraduates) with the possibility to
explore different modern topics in the industrial engineering and operations
research fields. Throughout this talk, the speaker will go over some new
research directions which include optimization under uncertainty using robust
optimization, machine learning and data mining optimization, multi-criteria
optimization and big data analytics. Such topics can provide meaningful
solutions to many practical real-life problems. Along with this discussion he
will also bring some challenging aspects in energy systems, supply chain, and
healthcare applications. Finally, an open discussion will be held right away
after the seminar to provide an ideal opportunity for students who want to
pursue graduate studies.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Ismail Almaraj is an
assistant professor in systems engineering department at KFUPM, graduated with
PhD degree from the school of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the
university of Oklahoma. His publications and research interests focus on
Optimization under Uncertainty, Multi-Criteria Optimization, Production Systems
and Supply Chain, Healthcare, and Quality Engineering. He is also currently
working on a project with the health science center at the university of
Oklahoma in Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) using Robust Optimization. The
objective is to choose beam angles and beamlet intensities that deliver enough
radiation to kill all tumor cells, while avoiding healthy organs and tissue as
much as possible.
