ABSTRACT

Cryptography plays the major role in information security. However, cryptographic algorithms consume considerable amount of resources like memory, encryption and decryption times. This talk introduces an approach of comparing symmetric to asymmetric cryptosystems. In this study, we will compare comparably secure symmetric cipher algorithms (AES) with asymmetric cipher algorithms (Elliptic curve Cryptography - (ECC)) in terms of encryption time, decryption time, and throughput with variable data sizes. In this talk, we also summarize the results of these comparisons and highlights our observations to help in making an informative decision when choosing the appropriate algorithm for different applications.
