THE STANDING COMMITTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY

THE COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

 

I.      PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS

 The Community Affairs Committee shall have the primary responsibility for advising and initiating policy recommendations for review by the Rector on matters related to the University community. In addition, it shall have certain continuing responsibilities for administrative, financial and judiciary duties in certain assigned areas of its major functions.

 Specifically: The Committee shall:

1.       Discuss, study, and propose policy recommendations to the Rector on community related matters which are either initiated by the committee or brought to its attention by any member of the University Community or referred to it by the Rector.

2.                   Organize recreational and social activities and make recommendations for review by the Rector.

3.                   Plan, and select cultural programs, performances and group tours in the surrounding area, and plan summer programs for the youth and the community.

4.                   Plan welcome and orientation programs for the new faculty and staff joining the University.

5.                   Initiate annual budget plans for activities listed in items 2, 3, and 4.

6.                   Advise on policy governing self-directed campus groups such as the “Women’s Group” operating on campus.

7.                   Coordinate with relevant standing committees regarding all incidents and violations of community related University rules.

8.                  Review and advise on the choice and suitability of Cable-TV programs for presentation at the University.
