Welcome to the Workshop!

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) has been in the forefront in conducting research on concrete durability problems in the Arabian Gulf and developing preventive strategies. Several research projects were conducted in this area. The results of studies conducted at KFUPM have been published in the national and international journals and conference proceedings. Due to these efforts KFUPM is considered to be a center of research excellence in the area of concrete durability. In addition to publishing the out come of research projects, KFUPM has been striving to enlighten the construction industry on the latest developments in the field of concrete durability through short courses and seminars held at regular intervals. Additionally, one day seminars/workshops have been organized to facilitate engineers who cannot leave their work for a long period of time to attend short courses. This is the third one-day workshop on concrete deterioration and its prevention. The 1st one-day workshop was organized in February 2006 and the second one was held in November 2007. The aim of these annual one-day workshops is to provide forum for the field engineers and the academia to share knowledge on the developments in the field of concrete protection. Researchers and faculty members will present the outcome of the latest research conducted at KFUPM while the field engineers would share their knowledge on the concrete problems and their solutions. The first two workshops were highly acclaimed by the participants and the attendees requested KFUPM to organize these types of workshops more often. We hope that that the deliberations of the 3rd workshop would be as useful as the earlier two workshops.
