Title: Basics of WebCT

WebCT is an online course management system available at KFUPM. The system allows faculty members to supplement their face-to-face courses with the online resources. The workshop consists of hands on sessions to highlight the application of WebCT to support various teaching and learning processes. It is suitable for the novice WebCT users and covers the fundamental of WebCT. For those who have some experience with WebCT, they may find the other workshop "Publishing Content and Quizzes in WebCT" more appropriate for them.

Title: Publishing Content and Quizzes in WebCT

There are a number of components that WebCT offers to the course designers to design their online WebCT courses. Publishing content and creating quizzes are perhaps the most involving tasks for a WebCT course designer. These training sessions cover these two aspects in a WebCT course design. This workshop has been designed for those KFUPM faculty members who already have some experience with WebCT. The beginners would find the workshop "Basics of WebCT" more appropriate for them.

Day 02 Creating Quizzes in WebCT

Title: Using Online Discussion for Learning

The face-to-face learning environment provides an efficient setup for synchronous communication. The online environment, on the other hand, provides a very effective setup for asynchronous communication with online discussion as its main component. Each of the synchronous and asynchronous modes of communication have their unique characteristics, which can be utilized for the purpose of learning.

The participants of this workshop will be able to:

  • Identify the benefits of online discussion for the learning process

  • Identify some strategies for the effective application of online discussion for the learning

The workshop commences with an hour long face-to-face meeting followed by online activities for a period of a week. A major part of the online activities consists of group work. Each participant is expected to spend a total of about 10 hours in the online activities during the workshop.
