"Development
of Creativity and Excellence of Faculty Members
at Universities in Saudi Arabia"
Developing excellence and improving academic
skills for faculty members are among the primary
goals of academic institutions since these
elements are directly related to improving the
learning process which results in improving the
learning outcomes. Academic institutions have
realized that it is not enough for faculty
members to be expert in their field of
expertise, but also they have to acquire
teaching and research skills as well as coping
with the recent developments in information
technology. King Fahd University of Petroleum &
Minerals (KFUPM) has realized from the very
beginning the vital importance of faculty
development. Thus, KFUPM established the
Deanship of Academic Development (DAD) to assist
the University in continuously improving its
academic system by enabling faculty and teaching
assistants to reach their full potential in
teaching and research and also by advising the
University in the enhancement of its academic
programs, facilities and processes to the best
available quality standards.
To
encourage faculty development in Saudi
universities, the Ministry of Higher Education
requested proposals on the basis of open
competition among Saudi universities as part of
the project on "Development of Creativity and
Excellence of Faculty Members at Universities in
Saudi Arabia". KFUPM has won four programs in
this project. These programs have been designed
based on research results on best practices on
teaching and learning as well as the vast
experience of KFUPM in Academic Development. We
hope that these programs will be very beneficial
to our faculty members and help them in reaching
their highest potential in teaching and
learning.
There are four (4) programs under this project:
-
Planning and Managing e-Learning Programs in
Higher Education
-
e-Learning: Teaching and Learning Skills for

Training of Peer
Consultants in Teaching
-
