Registration
Minimum Registration Load
What are the registration requirements for the full-time students?
A: All Full-time graduate students (FTs, RAs, LBs, GAs) are required to register for at least 09 credit hours each
semester. Full-time graduate students who do NOT register at least 09 credit hours are dropped in the second week of
the semester which severely affects their scholarship benefits.
Full-time students must note the following carefully & act accordingly:
- 1. Make sure you register at least 9 credit hours of courses.
2. If you are an MS student with 3/6 credit hours remaining, then you have to register the MS thesis to complete a
load of 9/12 credit hours.
3. MS students whose transcripts show 24 or more earned credit hours are automatically waived from this
condition. Receiving this e-mail indicates you do not fall into this category (check your transcript if you think
otherwise and act).
4. MS students with 3 or more courses left are NOT allowed to register for the MS Thesis (XXX 610).
5. Students enrolled in non-thesis degrees, whose transcripts show 36 or more earned credit hours are
automatically waived from this condition. Please check your online transcript to make sure if you fall into this
category.
6. If you have completed the required 24 credit hours towards your degree but you are receiving this e-mail, please
petition to include any uncounted courses (e.g. 400-level courses) towards your degree in order to avoid dropping
your registration.
7. Courses with IC grades are not counted automatically. Students with pending IC grades and no more courses to
register need to petition to be allowed.
8. PhD students who have registered XXX-710 in previous semesters will continue registering XXX-710 until they
graduate. For such PhD students:
a. If only 3 credit hours are remaining to complete the coursework, the student is re-quired to petition to be
allowed to register the PhD Dissertation and have 15 registered credit hours.
b. If only 6 credit hours are remaining to complete the coursework, the student is re-quired to petition to be
allowed to register for 6 credit hours only.
9. PhD students, who never registered XXX-710, are required to register and pass XXX-711 first and then take
XXX-712 in subsequent semesters. For such PhD students:
a. If only 3 credit hours are remaining to complete the coursework, the student is re-quired to petition to be
allowed to register for 6 credit hours (the remaining course and XXX-711) only.
