I cordially welcome you to the department of Aerospace Engineering (AE) homepage. The idea for AE was launched over 20 years ago, and the proposal for the Aerospace Engineering Department was initiated in 1404 H (1984 G). Aeronautical Engineering option was opened in Mechanical Engineering Department (ME) in 1406 H (1986 G). A separate Aerospace Engineering Program was started in ME Department in 1419 H (1998 G). Aerospace Engineering Department was established in 1423 H (2002 G) as the first full-fledged Aerospace (Aeronautics and Astronautics) engineering department in the kingdom and in the Gulf region.

The department has a well-defined vision of positioning KFUPM into a 'leading and guiding' institution by developing a full range of aerospace degrees (undergraduate, graduate, and associate degrees) and conducting original research programs of the highest quality for meeting the Kingdom's and region's needs for education, manpower, and technical expertise in AE and related fields. Moreover, the department aims at providing high quality education at international level in AE, well grounded in the fundamental principles of engineering, in order to inspire and prepare students for leadership positions in many job openings in reputed organizations such as Royal Saudi Air force (RSAF), Saudi-Aramco Aviation and for some off-set programs and private aerospace companies.

The department is conducting and promoting scientific research and has on its credit many publications in the top leading journals such as AIAA (published in 5 out of 6 major AIAA journals), British, Canadian and Japanese AE Journals in the areas of Aerodynamics, Aerospace Structures, Flight Dynamics and Control, Propulsion and other areas. The department is participating in the community services and has good relations with the local industry of our field. An example of this relation a "Memorandum of Understanding" is under signature with Royal Saudi Air force (RSAF) by the department and there is a cooperation agreement with Saudi Aramco Aviation Department.

Currently, the department offers two undergraduate (B.S) programs: one in Applied Aerospace Engineering and the other in Aerospace Engineering Science. The quality of these programs was evaluated by the Accredition Board of Engineering & Technology (ABET) and was recognized to be of international standard. The department also provides a graduate (M.S) program which covers a wide range of courses in the field of science and aviation technology. We are in the process of opening a Ph.D program in our department. We seek help and guidance from Allah (SWT) for our professional and educational progress.

Dr. Ayman Muhammad Abdallah
