PRESENTS SEMINAR

Mechanistic Studies On Rhodium N-Heterocyclic Carbene Catalysts

Date: Wednesday, February 24th  2016
Time: 11:00 AM
Location: Building 4, Room 125

Speaker:

Prof. Luis Oro
Inorganic Chemistry Department, University of Zaragoza, Spain
KFUPM Visiting Chair Professor

Abstract:
A series of neutral and cationic rhodium complexes bearing a NHC ligand have been synthesized and evaluated as catalyst precursors for H/D exchange reaction of styrene using CD3OD as deuterium source, as well as for alkyne hydrothiolation under mild conditions. The mechanism of these homogeneous catalytic reactions will be discussed.

Biography:

Luis Oro is a professor of Inorganic Chemistry at Zaragoza University. He has co-authored about 600 scientific contributions on synthesis, reaction mechanisms and homogeneous catalysis by platinum metal complexes. He is co-chairman of the Editorial Board of ChemCatChem and Series Editor of Topics in Organometallic Chemistry. He has been named "Highly Cited Researcher" in the field of Chemistry by ISI Web of Knowledge. He has received numerous awards and honours, and is member of several international scientific Academies, including the National Academies of Germany and France. He has been president of the European Association for Chemistry and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS) (2008-11).

All faculty, researchers and graduate students are invited to attend.
