Title

Implementation of Wireless Localization System based on Trilateration Method.

Description

You are cordially invited by the COE/ICS, to attend a Graduate Seminar, on the above given title, by Mr. Abdulsalam S. Basabaa, MS Student in Computer Networks, on Tuesday, 23rd April, 2013, at  02:30 PM, in Building 22, Room 132.

Abstract: In this work we design, implement and test an outdoor wireless location system using available Wi-Fi wireless local area network (WLAN) infrastructure. We use RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) distance estimation and apply Trilateration method to determine the coordinates of mobile client. Two advantages in using Wi-Fi WLAN: firstly, no more expenses to pay such that this infrastructure already implemented to provide other services for clients such as Internet connectivity through a backbone wired LAN and no extra hardware needed. Secondly, it is easy to deploy to provide wireless localization system. We test our system in an open area and the gathered results showed that the system provides better accuracy if the values of RSSI are strong and this system needs at least three access points to work.

About the speaker: Mr. Abdulsalam S. Basabaa recently prepares MS degree in computer networks in Computer Engineering Department at KFUPM, Saudi Arabia. He received the BS degree in computer science from Hadhramout University of Science and Technology, Mukalla, Yemen, in 2008. Prior to joining the KFUPM, he worked as instructor for two years in computer science department at Hadhramout University of Science and Technology, Mukalla, Yemen. His research interests include mobile ad-hoc networks and network security.
