Dear all COE
faculty members,
Dr. Muhammad Wasim
Raad will present a seminar entitled “Advances in Mobile telemedicine & IOT
(Internet of Things) and the Future of MBAN (Medical Body Area Networks”,
on Wednesday, 19,
2014 at 2:30 p.m. in Bldg. 22, Room 119.
Abstract:
Chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases,
hypertension, and diabetes are becoming the world’s leading causes of death and
disability. Cardiovascular
diseases(CVD) are the number one cause of death globally. The number of people
who die from CVDs, mainly from heart disease and stroke, are expected to reach
23.3. million by 2030 according to World Health Organization. With
the advent of modern technology like IOT ( the internet of things), RFID
& sensor networks , it has become possible to deliver healthcare
services remotely to areas where patients cannot access hospitals or
physicians using telecommunication technology in what is known as
telemedicine. In addition to that, there has been increasing interest
recently in wearable/implantable health monitoring devices like the heart
pacemaker. BANs (Body Area Networks) or WBAN are attracting growing attention
lately as a solution to support applications & services in healthcare. The
IOT is rapidly emerging, and the number of connected devices are expected to
grow exponentially (10s billions in 2020), with the continuous miniaturization
of these wearable devices. The talk will shed light on the ongoing research in
telemedicine utilizing RFID & biosensors in COE in addition to
presenting the state of the art advances in BANs & MBAN.
You are cordially
invited to attend.
