Body The 8th IEEE GCC conference and exhibition was held from 1st to 4th of February in Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. The conference was organized through the collaboration of the IEEE Gulf Sections. Universities from  Oman, UAE, KSA, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar participated in this conference & exhibition.
KFUPM (EE De​partment) won two awards in this conference;1ST prize for student poster award and 2nd price for best paper award competition.
2ND Place for the best paper award
Mr. Tri B. Susilo who is a graduate student of KFUPM EE department won 2nd prize in best paper award competition. His advisor was  Dr.Mohammad AlSunaidi (Professor of EE department) and title of the paper was “Intermixing Effects on Emission Properties of InGaN/GaN Coupled Quantum Wells”.

1st Place for the student poster award
Mr.Loai AlHumaidhi who is an undergraduate Student of KFUPM EE department, won 1st prize in best poster award competition. Title of his poster was “Level measurement system for underground tanks”. His advisors was Dr. Munir Alabsi (Associate professor of EE department).
The theme of 8th IEEE GCC Conference was “Towards Smart Sustainable Solutions” which is a symbolic reflection of the technological sustainable development occurring in the Gulf Region and reflection of the worldwide role of innovation in the ever-increasing sustainable applications of technology in industry and our daily life. The driver of such innovation is maximizing the opportunities gained through applying the advancement in electrical and computer technology in various industries.
The KFUPM EE department extends its warmest congratulations to its students for this wonderful achievement and aims for more success in the future.​
