A KFUPM team of four students (2 graduates and 2
undergraduates) has won the first place in the Middle East in The AAPG’s
Imperial Barrel Award conducted in Muscat, Oman Monday March 16. AAPG's Imperial Barrel Award (IBA) Program is an annual
prospective basin evaluation contest for geoscience students from universities
around the globe. The participants analyze geologic, geophysical, land,
economic and production data in a real world scenario. Each team presents
their results in a 25-minute PowerPoint presentation before a panel of three
judges who are experts from the oil industry.
KFUPM team will go and compete with 11 other teams from around the world just
before the AAPG annual convention in Denver May 31-June 3, 2015.
It’s worth mentioning that KFUPM students have participated in this competition
three times now (2010, 2012, and 2015) and have won first place in the Middle
East in all three. They have also won third place worldwide in 2010.
