Abstract:
This talk discusses student-centered learning with the emphasis on pro-active rather than reactive learning. It covers the issues of deep learning and understanding, shared responsibility and accountability of both teacher and student. The research questions that animate this talk are: What are teaching practices adopted by KFUPM instructors? Do these practices reflect any types of students-centered learning? Do students perceive their instructors' teaching practices as encouraging student-centered learning? This talk also looks at two surveys that were administered to students and instructors as well as an interview type questionnaire distributed to instructors. It also reflects on the quantitative results from the surveys which show that KFUPM faculty members use many student-centered teaching approaches and methods in their classes.

All faculty and students are welcome to attend.
