| جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن تطلق أول جائزة لرتبة الأستاذ الجامعي المتميز |

| في خطوة هي الأولى من نوعها على مستوى المنطقة كرم معالي مدير جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن الدكتور خالد بن صالح السلطان أمس الأول (الاثنين 5/4/2008م) عضوين من هيئة التدريس بالجامعة برتبة الأستاذ الجامعي المتميز وهما أستاذ قسم الهندسة الكهربائية د . محمد طاهر أبو المعاطي وأستاذ الهندسة الميكانيكية الدكتور بكري سامي يلبس , بحضور وكلاء الجامعة وعمداء الكليات ورؤساء الأقسام الأكاديمية وعدد من الأساتذة في الجامعة وذلك في مركز المؤتمرات بالجامعة.
من جهته أشاد معالي مدير الجامعة الأستاذ الدكتور/ خالد بن صالح السطان في كلمته في حفل التكريم بهذه المناسبة بالأستاذين المحتفى بهما بما قدمه كل منهما خلال مسيرته في الجامعة وقبلها , مشيرًا إلى التنافس الكبير الذي وجده معاليه بين أساتذة الجامعة والتميز الذي كان عليه الأستاذين المكرمين الذي خولهما للظفر برتبة الأستاذية الجامعية المتميزة التي أقرها معاليه ابتداءً من العام الدراسي الحالي 1429هـ (2008م ) باعتبارها أعلى مرتبة تمنحها الجامعة للأساتذة البارزين في مجالات البحث العلمي والتدريس و خدمة المجتمع في الجامعة.
ووجه معاليه بتخفيف العبء التدريسي لكل منهما وذلك لمنحهما مزيدًا من الوقت للبحث العلمي.
وأكد عميد البحث العلمي د . محمد بن سعد آل حمود أن رتبة الأستاذ الجامعي المتميز تمنح عبر التنافس وتكون لمدة 3 سنوات ، مضيفًا أنه يتم منح هذه الرتبة سنوياً لأستاذين من أعضاء هيئة التدريس بالجامعة بحد أقصى ، ويتمتع صاحبها بلقب الأستاذ المتميز بالإضافة إلى منحه مكافأة مالية تبلغ 20000 ريال سنوياً إضافة إلى جائزة بحثية مقدارها 150000ريال لمدة 3 سنوات يمكن أن يقوم الأستاذ بإدارتها لتشمل الأبحاث والأنشطة الداعمة للبحث وطلاب الدراسات العليا الذين يشرف عليهم . بالإضافة إلى تعيين باحث مابعد الدكتوراه بإشراف كل من الباحثين الفائزين , مشيرًا إلى أن الجائـزة تعزز من نجاح الأنشطة العلمية للباحث الفائز وتمويل بحوث ما بعد الدكتوراه لهؤلاء الأساتذة المتميزين.
وأضاف د . آل حمود أن المعايير التي حددت للمتقدمين لمنح رتبة الأستاذية المتميزة تقتضي تحقيق المتقدم لانجازات علمية حقيقة وان يكون عمله الأكاديمي معروفاً ومتميزاً ، كما ينبغي أن يكون لأبحاثه صدى في التطور المعرفي في حقله.
وأضاف أن اختيار الأساتذة لجائزة الرتبة المتميزة يعتمد على نوعية الانجازات التي قاموا به خلال فترة وجودهم بالجامعة ، وانعكاس ذلك على زملائهم والأساتذة الجدد وسمعة الجامعة العلمية والأكاديمية في الخارج من خلال النشر البحثي والمرجعية العلمية لأبحاثهم وتقييم أعمالهم من قبل أساتذة وباحثين متخصصين على المستوى العالمي في مجال تخصص الباحث ، فضلاً عن إسهاماتهم في المشاريع الممولة ومشاركاتهم في الدراسات العليا .
وقال د . آل حمود أن إدارة الجامعة تحرص باستمرار على دعم أعضاء هيئة التدريس وتميزهم في مجالات التدريس والبحث العلمي ، وهي مستمرة في تطلعاتها لتحقيق أجازات جديدة مستقبلاً إن شاء الله تعالى.
وعلق المكرمان بعد تسلم الجائزة حيث أوضح أستاذ قسم الهندسة الكهربائية د . محمد أبو المعاطي أن الجائزة بالنسبة له مادية وحسب بل إن التحدي الشريف قاده لبذل مزيد من العمل البحثي والأكاديمي المتقدم بإخلاص وصبر لتحقيق أهداف أسمى وأكبر , حيث قال " بالنسبة لي لاتقتصر هذه الجائزة كونها مادية فقط ، إنها تقديراً لكل مجهوداتي وأعمالي المتفانية طوال سنوات . إنه لشرف كبير أن يتم إختياري لهذه الجائزة ، لقد كان للسنوات التي قضيتها حتى الآن في جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن الأثر البالغ عليٌ من التدريس وخدمة المجتمع إلى القيام بالأبحاث وسأظل ممتناً لجامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن لتزويدي بالعديد من الفرص والخدمات كي تكون أحلامي كبيرة ثم أتمكن من تحقيق هذه الأحلام.
وأنا مسرور لرؤية إلتزام جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن بتميير وتقدير الإنجازات المتميزة لأعضاء هيئة التدريس في التدريس وخدمة المجتمع والأبحاث ، هذا التقدير يجعل أعضاء هيئة التدريس يدركون بأن مجهوداتهم الجادة والمخلصة ملاحظة من قبل الجامعة وأنهم عندما يضعون أهدافاً ويسعون لها سوف يصلون لهذه الأهداف بإذن الله تعالى" .
وركز أستاذ قسم الهندسة الميكانيكية د . بكر يلباس على اهتمام خادم الحرمين الشريفين حفظه الله بالبحث العلمي والعلماء , الأمر الملحوظ من خلال ما يقدمه من دعم للجامعات , وامتدح د. يلباس العمل في جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن الأمر الذي جعله يكمل معها هذا العام السنة السادسة عشر منذ التحاقه بالكادر التعليمي فيها. قائلاً: " ينبغي علينا جميعاً إحترام وتقدير وشكر الدعم الكبير الذي يقدمه خادم الحرمين الشريفين ملك المملكة العربية السعودية لتطوير الأبحاث ، وأنا أؤمن بأنه ينبغي أن تقوم الجامعة بإسهامات ملموسة للمجتمع من خلال الأعمال الفكرية والإجتماعية والثقافية والعلمية وأنا ملتزم كلياً بهذه الأفكار وأعتبرها ضمن مسئولياتي الأكاديمية أن اقدم الحد الأقصى من البحث العلمي , وعليه فإن طموحي هو تعزيز العمل البحثي والتعاون مع الباحثين الآخرين في القيام ببحوث مشتركة ونشر المعرفة المفيدة للجامعة والمؤسسات التعليمية والقطاع الصناعي والمجتمع |

| Distinguished University Professorship Award |

I am pleased to announce that the University has established the Distinguished University Professors Position starting the current academic year. The University Distinguished Professor is the highest honor that KFUPM can bestow on an outstanding faculty member who demonstrated highly productive and outstanding achievements in research, teaching and service at the university. Such a designation recognizes extraordinary, internationally-recognized, scholarly attainment in his field as well as excellence in teaching and service. Awarding the University Distinguished Professorship is based on competition. The term of the University Distinguished Professorship is three calendar years. A maximum of two positions are granted university-wide every year. The University Distinguished Professor receives SR 20,000 annually in addition to SR 150,000 research award, over three years, to be expended by the recipient for research, scholarly activities, graduate students, supplies for other related activities that enhance the success of his scholarly activities. The University will also fund a post-doctoral position for each of the Distinguished Professors. The applicant should demonstrate substantial scholarly achievements, and his academic work is widely known and respected. His research achievements should have a recognized impact on the advancement of knowledge in his area. The selection of the respective faculty is based on the quality of the scholarly achievements of the candidate during his presence at KFUPM, the leadership in research and its impact on colleagues and junior faculty, international reputation, his contribution to research via funded projects, and his involvement in graduate studies at KFUPM through theses supervision. On the basis of the above criteria, and after the internal and external review of applications, and based on the recommendations of the Scientific Council, I am pleased to announce the first two winners for the Distinguished University Professor positions during this year as follows: 1. Dr. Bekir S. Yilbas, Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department. 2. Dr. Mohammad T. Abuelma’atti, Professor, Electrical Engineering Department. Nominations for “Excellence in Research Awards” for the current Academic Year are
invited. The numerical rating form together with supporting documents should be

covering the period from January 01, 2003 up to December 31, 2006. Regulations for

Call for proposals:British Council Research Program (Summer 2007)
We are pleased to inform you that as in the past, this year also, the British Council
Post-Doctoral Summer Research (PDSR) program will be open for eligible Saudi faculty
members from the University. The participating faculty members should spend a minimum
period of eight weeks during Summer of 2007 in the U.K.
KFUPM support to the Grant includes a round trip economy class air ticket for the
selected Saudi candidate, 16 days per diem, and one week delay in the reporting period
for Fall Semester in addition to the grant of £ 4,750 awarded by the British Council
provided he spends the entire duration of the program in the host institution in the
UK and submits a report detailing his research outcomes within one month.
Consequently, research proposals are invited from Saudi faculty the format of
which should conform to the guidelines specified by the British Council and the
Deanship of Scientific Research which can be obtained from the University Research
Office (Building 59-2044, Tel 4383). Please note that preference will be given to
candidates who have not as yet participated in this scheme. Guidelines for the British

The Deanship of Scientific Research (DSR) is pleased to announce that it has received a communication from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) regarding it Merit Scholarship Programme for the year 1428 (2007-2008).
Under the Scholarship, selected scholars may pursue 3-year Ph.D study or 6-12 month Post-Doctoral research in any of the approved field in science and technology at renowned institutions of higher learning in the world. The scholarship covers:
Tuition/bench fee
Monthly living allowance
Monthly family allowance (for Ph.D study only)
Clothing and books allowance (for Ph.D study only)
Thesis/scientific papers preparation

As per the recent request of the Ministry of Higher Education to receive the list of names by Saturday, September 30, 2006 of Saudi faculty applying for Fulbright Scholar Program 2007-2008, we have changed the deadline for proposal submission to the Deanship of Scientific Research to Wednesday, September 20, 2006.
A number of Fulbright Scholarships are available to Saudi faculty of professorial ranks for the Academic Year 2007-2008 in a host institution in the United States.
Eligible faculty are invited to submit proposals along with the completed 2007-2008 Visiting Scholar Application Form to the Deanship of Scientific Research, Building No: 9, Room : 116 not later than Wednesday, September 20, 2006.

| Conference Attendance Applications Deadline (2005-2006) |

The Deanship of Scientific Research (DSR) would like to inform KFUPM Faculty members that the deadline for receiving conference applications for the academic year 2005-2006 will be Wednesday, May 10, 2006 with the following considerations:
1. Complete applications should be received at the conference office at least 35 days before the conference date
2. Applications should be submitted through the department chairman
3. Applications for conference attendance during the following days will not be considered:
a) Faculty Reporting Week
b) First Week of the Start of the Classes
c) Final Exam Period

The International Research Center for Japanese Studies is one of the constituent
institutions of the National Institutes for the Humanities, which was established as
an Inter-University Research Institute Corporation under a law effective April
2004. Founded in May 1987 as an inter-university research institute of the
Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, this Center
seeks to promote comprehensive, international, and interdisciplinary research on
Japanese culture, and to foster cooperation among researchers in Japanese
studies worldwide. In order to broaden and deepen research on Japanese
culture, and bring together researchers in a variety of specialized fields, the
Center has adopted the format of the “team research project”(kyodo kenkyu).
The Center is seeking a visiting research scholar to plan and organize a one-year
team research project starting from the Japanese academic year 2007 (April)-
2008 (March) focusing on some imaginative and significant research theme.
1. Role of the Project Organizer
The project organizer will be appointed as a visiting research scholar at
the Center. He or she will be responsible for: selecting and organizing the
project participants, drawing up and implementing research plans; chairing
research meetings; collating research results for publication.
2. Participants in the Project
Participants in the project must be either researchers residing in Japan or
members of the Center's faculty. A faculty member of the Center will assist
the project organizer.
3. Venue of Research Meetings
Research meetings will be conducted at the Center.
4. Eligibility
Researchers under 65 years old as of 1st April 2007 with a non-Japanese
citizenship who are attached to a university or other research institution, or
those whom the Director deems to have equivalent qualifications.
5. Number of Openings
One project organizer will be selected each year.
6. Research Period
The project organizer is expected to arrive in Kyoto between April 1 and
August 31, 2007; the project runs for one year after arrival. |
