The CRW is being run by two technical staff members; one machinist and one welder.
The main duties and responsibilities of the Workshop's technical staff are as follows: THE MACHINIST:
- Manufacturing and/or modifying of research equipment for faculty and graduate research projects, operating machine tools and equipment found in the CRW's Machine Shop.
- Manufacturing of precision equipment and instruments, using machines and equipment in the workshop's precision shop.
- Provision of general assistance to the academic, research staff and graduate students.
- Assisting faculty and graduate students with final and testing of fabricated equipment.
- Minor sheet metal and welding works.
- Trouble-shooting, repairing and maintenance of research equipment.
- Servicing, testing and maintenance of the workshop's machinery.
- Preparing of sketches or drawings to enable work to be carried out.
THE WELDER:
- Fabrication of structural steel works in various metals for faculty and graduate research projects using the Workshop's welding equipment.
- Fabrication of sheet metal works in various metals, using sheet metal fabrication equipment.
- Fabrication of woodwork and Plexiglas items.
- Repairing and maintenance of research equipment as well as workshop equipment.
- Painting or corrosion proofing of fabricated equipment.
- Minor machining works.
