Essentials of Turbines and Compressors
College of Applied Engineering Mechanical Engineering
Turbomachinery constitute a large class of
machines, which are found virtually everywhere in the industrial world. At
present, although high turbomachinery efficiencies are reported at high pressure
ratios, it seems remarkable to reflect that after seventy years of continuous
development, the machine is still able to pose to both research engineers and
designers an abundance of unsolved challenging problems. Therefore, the present
short course covers the basic principles of turbomachinery (gas turbines and
compressors), performance analysis and maintenance of turbomachines. The course
is extended to include machine arrangement, type of fuel used, factors affecting
the maintenance and inspection strategies of the gas turbines. To make the short
course
beneficial for industrial technical personal, theoretical studies are
accompanied with the worked examples and the case studies.
A college preparation in basic fluid mechanics and thermodynamics is assumed. Engineers and Scientists whose interest is in the field are all welcome.
Changes may take place on scheduling of short courses without any prior notice.
