Practical Control of Distillation Columns

The course provides an introduction to control theory and modeling of steady state and dynamic behavior of distillation columns. Subsequently, different approaches to the application of control theory to distillation columns will be presented. The basics of distillation control will be discussed first. Later, different control strategies and guidelines will be outlined. Advanced control schemes and applications to special types of distillation, for example, extractive, reactive and azeotropic distillation will be presented. Practical application of control systems for distillation columns will be demonstrated using commercial simulators, for example, HYSYS and ASPEN. Some practical examples and case studies that will help the practicing engineer to have a better understanding and handling of distillation columns will be presented.
This course is intended for engineers who desire to gain better understanding of the operation and control of distillation columns.
