Design
and Operation of Healthy
College of Environmental Design Architectural Engineering
The impact of indoor environmental quality on human comfort, health, productivity, and associated costs is generally recognized and appreciated in most types of buildings. Unfortunately, it is seldom evaluated or considered. Concern over the quality of indoor environments has emerged with the increased level of dependence on artificial means to create controlled environments. Furthermore, the introduction of chemically intensive operations and the use of new materials and high-tech equipment in buildings have introduced a wide range of pollutants into the indoor air and subsequently have contributed to the deterioration of buildings quality. The objective of this course is to bring building designers, operators and managers to appreciate the impact of indoor environmental quality on occupants health, productivity and well being, and introduce them to the parameters and factors that determine and influence the quality of the indoor environment aspects and problems pertaining to thermal, visual, acoustical and air quality.
