Earthquake Resistant Designs of Concrete and Steel Structures
College of Applied Engineering
Civil
Engineering
Seismic activities around the world are always random, unpredictable and do almost always cause tremendous calamities including losses of human lives and properties. It has long been recognized from analysis of reconnaissance studies and from accumulated statistics of magnitudes and characteristics of typical structural damages caused by seismic (earthquake) forces that uses and implementation of proper structural design specifications in building structures play a major role in reducing the vital ramifications that might otherwise ensue from earthquake forces. The majority of engineering structures in the region are built using reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete and/or structural steel. It is therefore imperative that engineers involved in design of structures have adequate understanding of earthquake effects on structures and how aseismic designs of structures should be performed to mitigate human and property losses. The course will emphasize the key issues relevant to the behavior and seismic resistant design of reinforced structures, pre-stressed structures, and steel structures.
Civil, Architectural and Structural engineers involved in the analysis, design, and/or assessment of seismic resistant reinforced concrete structures, pre-stressed concrete structures and steel structures
