Computer Simulation, Modeling, and Evaluation of Architectural and Urban Space Using Space Syntax

The objective of this course is to introduce participants to the theory and computer-based techniques of space syntax and its wide range of potential applications in architecture, urban design and planning. The course also focuses on the functional performance of buildings and urban areas by addressing the following questions: 1. How does the pattern of streets in a city influence patterns of movement and social interaction? 2. How does the layout of store influence patterns of browsing and buying? 3. How does the spatial design of residential area influence the vulnerability of dwellings to crimes such as burglary and vandalism
This course is intended for architects, architectural and civil engineers, planners, and decision makers in private or government organizations whose job duties involve the analysis and design of buildings and urban areas and the evaluation of the impacts of intervention projects and urban development.
