High Voltage Phenomena on Power Systems
College of Applied Engineering Electrical Engineering
Following topics will be covered: 1) Study the basics of H.V. Phenomena and technology as related to power systems 2) Study partial discharges; damage to dielectrics and corona on insulators and transmission lines, its power loss and causes of RI and TVI. 3) Review on H.V. cables, circuit breakers and transformer and how they react to high voltage surges 4) Introduction and analysis of the flashover characteristics for various configuration in dry, cleans and polluted conditions 5)Study the causes of over voltages on power system, how to limit such conditions 6) Introduction to insulation coordination, use of conventional, statistical and curves methods for power systems
The course will be useful for engineers and senior technical personnel from industrial plants and utilities as well as contracting companies involved in the design and/or utilization of high voltage equipment and operation of electric power systems. Subjects covered should also be of assistance to other electronic communication, and computer test engineers as well as inspection personnel.
