Dr. Samir H. Abdul-Jauwad holds a PhD (1985) in Electrical Engineering from the University Of Sheffield, England, U.K. He got his bachelor's (1973) and MS degree (1976) in Electrical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He is currently an associate professor of Electrical Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), where his teaching and research interests include Signal and Image Compression, Image Processing, Wavelets, Satellite Communications. Dr. Samir H. Abdul-Jauwad is Senior Member of IEEE. 

Dr. M. Abido is a Professor at the Electrical Engineering Department, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals. He received his B. Sc. (Honors with first class) and M. Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Menoufia University, Egypt, in 1985 and 1989 respectively. He got his Ph. D degree from Electrical Engineering department, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia, in 1997. Dr. Abido has appointed as a Visiting assistant professor at Faculty of Engineering & Applied Sciences, Memorial Univ. of Newfoundland, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada for summer of 2001. In summer 2003 and summer 2006, he was a Visiting Scientist, Lehrstuhl für Elektrische Energieversorgung Friedrich-Alexander-Universitat Erlangen-Nurnberg, Germany.
Since joining KFUPM in 1999 as an Assistant Professor, Dr. Abido has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in power systems and electrical machines, and has been actively involved in both basic and applied research in the area of power systems.
Dr. Abido’s research interests include power electronics applications to power systems, power systems dynamics, operation, and control. Dr. Abido is actively involved in research with more than 130 refereed journal and conference publications/presentations. He authored/co-authored three book chapters. His work has been cited for more than 600 of non-self citations.
Dr. Abido is the principal/co investigator of many research projects of approximately SR 8.5 million budget. His projects were funded by Ministry of Water, & Electricity, Saudi Electricity Company SEC, Saudi ARAMCO, SABIC, and KFUPM. He has supervised several Ph. D. and M. Sc. students. Dr. Abido has been invited to act as external examiner for Ph. D. thesis in Helsinki University of Technology, Helsinki, Finland, March 2008.

Dr. Abido is the Editor of a Special Issue of International Journal of Power and Energy Conversion and he is a member in two editorial boards of two journals in the field. He is an invited reviewer for the IEEE transaction on PWRS, IEEE transaction on EC, IEEE transaction on Evolutionary Computation, The IEE GTD, Electric Power Systems Research, Electrical Power and Energy Systems and others. 

Muhammad Taher Abuelma'atti was born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1942. He received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1963 from the University of Cairo, Cairo, Egypt, the Ph.D. degree in 1979 and the Doctor of Science degree in 1999 both from the University of Bradford, Bradford, England.

From 1963 to 1967, he worked at the Military Technical College in Cairo as a Teaching Assistant. He was with the Iron and Steel Company in Helwan, Cairo, from 1967 to 1973 as a Senior Electrical Engineer. From 1973 to 1976 he was with the College of Engineering, University of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as a Teaching Assistant. From 1980 to 1981, he worked with the Faculty of Engineering, University of Khartoum, Sudan, as an Assistant Professor, and from 1981 to 1982 he was with the College of Engineering, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as an Assistant Professor. In 1982 he joined the College of Engineering, University of Bahrain and in 1987 he became an Associate Professor. In 1991 he joined the College of Engineering Sciences, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where he became a Full Professor in January 1995 and in April 2008 he became a Distinguished University Professor. In April 2009 he was appointed as an Honorary Visiting Professor at the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, The University of Manchester, Manchester, U.K.

In February 2006, in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, Professor Abuelma'atti received the 19th Khwarizmi International Award in recognition to his distinguished scientific research activities. He is the recipient of the 1994/1995 Excellence in Teaching Award and the 1995/1996, 2000/2001 and 2005/2006 Excellence in Research Award, and the 2007/2008 Distinguished University Professor Award, all at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. In November 2008, he received the Scopus Award for Contribution to Science and in the latest online publication, published by COMSTECH Secretariat, entitled "Leading Scientists and Engineers of OIC Member states" published in July 2008, Professor Abuelma'atti is listed as the top and foremost Engineer of the OIC Member States. His research interests include problems related to analysis and design of nonlinear electronic circuits and systems, analog integrated circuits and active networks design. He is the author or co-author of over 600 journal articles and technical presentations. According to Scopus (Elsevier) Professor Abuelma'atti's current "h-index" is 15. 

Abu Hamed. M. Abdur-Rahim did his Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada in 1972. Since his Ph.D., he has worked at the University of Alberta, Bangladesh University of Engineering, University of Strathclyde (Glasgow), University of Bahrain, DeVry Institute of Technology, Calgary and at the University of Calgary. Dr. A-Rahim is presently working at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran where he is a Professor. Dr. Rahim's main fields of interest are energy systems, power system control, and application of artificial intelligence to power systems. Dr. A-Rahim is a senior member of IEEE and Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh. 

Ibrahim El-Amin graduated with BSc. in electrical engineering from University Of Khartoum, Sudan, in 1971. He received his MSc. & Ph.D. from UMIST, UK in 1975 & 1978 respectively. He is currently a Professor at KFUPM, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

Dr. El-Amin’s research interests include power systems, power deregulation, HVDC transmission, Power quality and system Harmonics and renewable energy. 

Prof. Mahmoud M. Dawoud graduated from Cairo University with B.Sc.(honours). He obtained the M.Sc. from Assiut University (Egypt), and the Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield, U.K. in 1973. He was a senior research fellow at the University of Sheffield. He joined KFUPM, Dhahran in 1980. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in communications, electromagnetics, circuits and electronics. Professor Dawoud’s research interests and publications are in the design of microwave antennas, adaptive arrays, biological effects of electromagnetic radiation, and digital communications. He has also been involved in the design and development of EE200 and EE201 online courses. Prof. Dawoud is a Fellow of the IET (formerly IEE) and a Senior member of the IEEE. 

Dr. Zakariya Al-Hamouz is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. He received his Ph.D., M.Sc and B.Sc. degrees from the KFUPM, Jordan University of Science &Technology (Jordan) and Yarmouk University (Jordan) in 1994 and 1989, and 1986, respectively, in electrical engineering with a specialization in power systems. Since joining KFUPM in 1994, Dr. Al-Hamouz has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical machines, power systems protection, and high voltage engineering. Dr. Al-Hamouz served as the principal investigator of three funded projects and had been a member in many others. He has authored/co-authored 74 refereed journal and conference publications. He has been actively engaged in teaching short courses for engineers from SEC, ARAMCO, SABIC and other industrial sectors. Dr. Al-Hamouz is a recipient of many awards. Chief among them are: Excellence in Research Award, KFUPM, 1999-2000, “IEEE/IAS "James Melcher" Prize Paper Award, 1999, 1st IEEE GCC Conference Prize Paper Award, 2003, Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Bin AbdulAziz Al Saud Award For Scientific Excellence for the year 1995-1996. 

Dr. Essam Hassan obtained his B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering, (highest honor) from Alexandria University, Egypt in 1970, and M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba , Canada in 1974, 1978 respectively. After graduation, Dr. Hassan worked at Nortel (then Northern Telecom) from 1977 to 1979 as a senior R&D engineer in the digital switching division (DSD). He then joined KFUPM at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia where he is currently a Professor of electrical engineering. Dr. Hassan is an author or coauthor of over 50 papers in various disciplines of electrical engineering. His major interests are in the EM theory, microstrip lines, microwave filter design, signal fading, ducting phenomena and anomalous propagation. Dr. Hassan was a Visiting Professor at Concordia University, Canada and has served as a consultant and principal investigator in several electrical engineering projects. 

Husain A. Jamid received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, in 1981 and 1983, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in 1986. He is currently a Professor with the Electrical Engineering Department, KFUPM. He has done research work in metal-clad as well as nonlinear optical waveguides. His current research interest is in optical device simulation and development of related numerical methods. He was the electrical engineering subject editor for the Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering from 2005 to 2007. Dr. Jamid is three times the recipient of KFUPM Excellence in Teaching Award. 

Prof. Mohamed M. Mansour (M' 1981, SM' 2008) received B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt in 1975 and 1980 respectively. His Ph.D. was from University of Manitoba, Canada; in 1984. He is currently a Chair Prof. of power system in Dept. of Electrical Engineering in KFUPM. He has been a visiting Prof. in many universities in Canada, Egypt and Kuwait. He has about 100 published papers in journals and conferences. He supervised about 35 M.Sc. and Ph.D. thesis, mainly in protection and control on power system and/or machine. He is a member/senior member of many professional and learned societies. Besides consultation activities, he has been involved in many industrial projects as a team leader (mainly in microprocessor/microcontroller based embedded system in the field). His major research and industrial interest is in power system protection, measurement and control.

Hassan Ragheb was born in Port-Said, Egypt, in 1953. He received the B. Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt, in 1977 and the M. Sc. and Ph. D. degrees in Elctrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada, in 1984 and 1987, respectively. From 1987 to 1989, he was a research assistant in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Manitoba. In 1989, he joined the Depatment of of Electrical Engineering at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, where he is now as associate Professor of Electrical Engineering. His research interests include electromagnetic scattering by mulitple and coated objects, microstrip antennas, phased arrays, slot and open ended waveguide antennas. 

Asrar U.H. Sheikh graduated from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan with first class honors degree in 1964 and received his M. Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Birmingham, England, in 1966 and 1969 respectively. Professor Sheikh has vast experience in education and research in several developing and developed countries. He held positions in Pakistan, Iran, UK, and Libya before joining Carleton University, Ottawa in 1981, first as an Associate Professor and later as a Professor and Associate Chairman for Graduate Studies. He was a Professor and Associate Head of the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he established the Wireless Information Systems Research (WISR) Centre. In March 2000, he joined KFUPM as Bugshan/Bell Lab Chair in Telecommunications, the first chair professorship in Saudi Arabia. At KFUPM, he established Telecommunications Research Laboratory (TRL). He also established teaching laboratories in Iran and Libya. He held the position of the Rector, Foundation University Islamabad, Pakistan during his leave of absence from KFUPM last year.

Professor Sheikh is the author of a recently published book, Wireless Communications – Theory & Techniques published by Springer, USA in 2004. Earlier he contributed a chapter on wireless communications in a book on Telecommunications in Canada in 1986. He has published over 270 papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He also authored or co-authored 32 technical reports. Dr. Sheikh has delivered several keynote speeches at international conferences. Dr. Sheikh also received several honours and awards - 1984 Paul Adorian Premium from IERE (London), Teaching Achievement Awards in 1984 and 1986, and Research Achievement Award in 1994 (Carleton University), and Research Excellence Awards (College of Engineering Sciences, KFUPM) in 2005 and 2006.

He Chaired the Technical Program of IEEE-VTC’98, ISWSN’03 and IEEE-ISWSN’05. He was the Vice-chair TPC of IEEE-GCC 2006 held in Bahrain. He has been member of Technical Program Committees of many international conferences and organized and chaired many technical sessions. Professor Sheikh has delivered many invited keynote lectures in international conferences. He was an editor of IEEE Transaction on Wireless Communications (2003-05), and was a Technical Associate Editor of IEEE Communication Magazine (2000-2001). He is on the Editorial Board of Wireless Personal Communications, and Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing, the two highly rated international journals.

Dr. Sheikh has been consultant to many private companies and government agencies. His current interests are in signal processing in communications, mitigation of interference in radio communications, radio propagation modeling, spread spectrum and 3G and beyond wireless communication systems. His other interests include helping developing countries in education and research. He held assignments under UNDP's sustained Development Program. Dr. Sheikh is listed in Marquis’s Who’s Who in the world and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. He is a member of Institution of Engineers Pakistan. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the IET (London). 

M. H. Shwehdi (S’74–M’85–SM’90) received the B.Sc. degree from the University of Tripoli, Tripoli, Libya, the M. Sc. degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and the Ph.D. degree from Mississippi State University, in 1972, 1975, and 1985, respectively, all in electrical engineering. He was a consultant to A.B. Chance Company and Flood Engineering in the USA. He held teaching positions with the University of Missouri-Columbia, University of Florida, Gainesville, and Pennsylvania State University. At present, he is a Professor with the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses and specialized short courses to Electric power engineers. His research interests include lightning Protection, Power system analysis, Power Quality and Harmonics, Renewable Energy and Energy Savings and analysis of over voltages on power systems. Dr. Shwehdi is active in IEEE activities both locally and nationally. He is listed as a distinguished lecturer with the DLP of the IEEE/PES. 

Dr. Mohamed Adnan Andalusi received his BS (with First Honors) from Ecole Nationale d’Ingenieurs de Tunis, Tunisia, in 1988, and the M.S and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1991 and 1996, respectively.

He has joined KFUPM in August 2001, where he is currently Associate Professor with the Electrical Engineering Department. His research interests are in the areas of digital communications and wireless networking. He has been involved in a number of research projects covering topics related to CDMA digital receiver design and implementation, LDPC error correcting codes, wireless radiolocation systems, and software-defined radios for MIMO applications.

Prior to joining KFUPM, Dr. Andalusi worked, from 1995 to 2001, in the Telecommunications Research & Development industry (with Nortel Networks and Research in Motion), where he held various positions as a Member of Scientific Staff and Technical Advisor, working on 2G mobile cellular networks, 3G wireless modem testbed prototyping, satellite transceiver design, and broadband wireless access product development.

Dr Andalusi has a number of publications related to his research areas of interest, including 5 patents, and 45 refereed technical publications in international journals and conference proceedings. 

Munir A. Al-Absi obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc from KFUPM, Dhahran Saudi Arabia in 1984 and 1987 respectively. Obtained his Ph. D form UMIST, UK in 2001. Currently  he is an Associate Professor  at KFUPM EE department teaching electronics and instrumentation courses. His research interests include Computational circuits using MOS in subthreshold, nano amperes current mirrors. 

J.M. Bakhashwain is currently an Associate Professor at KFUPM. He was the chairman of Electrical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia from 2002-2007. He received his Ph.D. from University of Colorado at Boulder in 1989. Dr. Bakhashwain area of interests are control systems and its application and management of magnetic fields. He has published many journals and conference papers and authored or co-authored a number of technical reports.

Dr. Bakhashwain is a recipient of the prize for best applied research GCC/ CIGRE twice both in 1995 & 1998. He also received the award for best academic advisor for the College of Engineering twice for the academic year 1993/1994 and 1997/1998. Dr. Bakhashwain was also nominated to receive the best teaching award in the college of engineering. 

Dr. Mohamed Deriche received his undergraduate Engineering degree from the National Polytechnic School of Algeria in 1985. He then joined the University of Minnesota, USA, where he completed his MS and PhD in 1988, and 1992 respectively. He worked as a Post Doctorate Fellow with the University of Minnesota Radiology Department in the area of MRI Imaging. He then joined the Queensland University of Technology, Australia, as a Lecturer in 1994, then Associate Professor in 2000. In 2001, He joined the EE Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Saudi Arabia, where he led the signal processing group.

He has published over one hundred fifty refereed papers. He delivered a number of tutorial, keynotes, and invited talks at international conferences. He chaired numerous international conferences (TENCON, IEEE GCC, CCSP, ..). He was awarded the ``Best Electrical Engineering Student'' at the Polytechnic School. He is a recipient of the IEEE third Millennium Medal for 2000. In 2006, he received the Shauman Award as the Best Researcher in Engineering Sciences in the Arab. In 2009, he received the prestigious KFUPM Excellence in research Award.

Dr. Deriche supervised more than 23 PhD and Master students and more than 60 BS theses in the areas of signal & image processing. He completed more than 30 Major Funded Research Projects including grants from the Australian Research Council (ARC) and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), Saudi Arab. 

Dr. Ibrahim Omar Habiballah is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals. He received his PhD from University of Waterloo, Canada in 1993. Since joining KFUPM, he taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical, power systems, power transmission, and electrical machines. He conducted many seminars locally and internationally in the related areas of power systems. He also conducted several short courses in the area of power systems. He advised and co-advised over ten master theses and over fifteen senior projects. He has supervised and co-supervised over fifty summer training and co-op students. Over the last six years, he has been involved in more than ten funded projects for local and international clients. Dr. Habiballah is currently the Chairman of the Electrical Engineering department. 

Dr. Kousa received B.Sc. in Physics, B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia on 1985, 1986 and 1988 respectively.

· Ph.D. in EE from Imperial College, London in 1994.

· He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, KFUPM.

· He served as the Director of Telecommunication Department at KFUPM from 1999-2007 where he was responsible for the development, operation and Maintenance of several advanced systems including: Digital Telephony, ADSL System, Wireless System, Smart Card System and its Applications, IVR (Interactive Voice Response System) and other.

· Taught variety of courses in communication systems, networking, data communications, information theory and error control coding.

· Delivered short courses in Cellular and Mobile Systems, Broadband Access Technologies, and Data Networking.

· Has over 30 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings.

·  Awarded the Best Teacher Award at KFUPM for the year 1999.

· His research interests include Wireless Communication, Broadband Access Techniques, Networking and Error-Control Coding . 

Ahmad A. Masoud (M’05) received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering with a major in power systems and a minor in communication systems from Yarmouk University, Irbid, Jordan, in 1985, and the M.Sc. (digital signal processing) and Ph.D. (robotics and autonomous systems) degrees, both in electrical engineering, from Queen’s University, Kingston, ON, Canada, in 1989 and 1995, respectively.

He worked as a Researcher with the Electrical Engineering Department, Jordan University of Science and Technology, Irbid, from 1985 to 1987. He was also a part-time Assistant Professor and a Research Fellow with the Electrical Engineering Department, Royal Military College of Canada, Kingston, from 1996 to 1998. During that time, he carried out research in digital signal processing-based demodulator design for high-density, multiuser satellite systems, and taught courses in robotics and control systems. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the Electrical Engineering Department, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

His current interests include navigation and motion planning, robotics, constrained
motion control, intelligent control, and DSP applications in machine vision and
communication. 

Husain M. Masoudi received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Electrical Engineering Department of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in 1986 and 1989 respectively. In 1995, he received his Ph.D. degree (1991-1995) from the Electronics and Electrical Engineering Department in the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, in the field of Opto-Electronics. In 1995, he was promoted to Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at KFUPM. From 1998 to 2004 he was a Manager of Laser Research Section, Center for Applied Physical Sciences, Research Institute at KFUPM. In 2002 he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. He was a visiting research professor to several research labs and departments such as the Emerging Communications Technology Institute at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada in 2006-2007, the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals, the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic in 2003, the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London, UK in 2001, the Electronics and Electrical Engineering Department, University of Glasgow in 1996 and 1998. His academic research interest includes Electromagnetic field interactions with linear and nonlinear materials, optical fiber communications and lasers and their applications. His current research interest is modeling linear and non-linear optical devices. This includes continuous wave (CW) interactions and pulsed optical beams. 

Dr. Al-Naffouri received his B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering (with honors) in 1994 from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He obtained his M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, in 1998, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, CA in 2004. He was a visiting scholar at California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA Jan-Aug, 2005 and during the summer of 2006. He was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Southern California Feb-Sep 2008.

He has held internship positions at NEC Research Labs, Tokyo, Japan in 1998, Adaptive Systems Lab, University of California at Los Angeles in 1999, National Semiconductor, Santa Clara, CA, in 2001and 2002, and Beceem Communications Santa Clara, CA, in 2004. Dr Al-Naffouri is currently an Assistant Professor at the Electrical Engineering Department, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia. Since Nov. 2008, he has been serving as the director of the office of cooperation with King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST).

His research interests lie in the areas of adaptive and statistical signal processing and their applications to wireless communications and in multiuser information theory. Dr. Al-Naffouri has over 45 publications in Journal and Conference Proceedings, 9 standard contributions, and 2 pending patent. Dr Al-Naffouri is the recipient of a 2001 best student paper award at the IEEE-EURASIP Workshop on Nonlinear Signal and Image Processing (NSIP) 2001 for his work on adaptive filtering analysis, and Al-Marai Prize for Innovative Research in Communications in 2008.

Dr. Saad Al-Shahrani obtained his B.Sc. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in 1993, and 1996 respectively. He received his PhD degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute University, USA, in June 2001.
Taught variety of electronics courses: Basic Electronics, Analog Integrated Circuits, and Advanced Analog Electronics.
Dr. Saad has over 25 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings and awarded the MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS PRIZE for the best entry of the month, July 1998. His research interests include Electronics, Integrated RF Circuits, Active RC circuits, and Wireless Communication Electronics.

Design of a High Efficiency and Linearity CMOS RF Power Amplifier.
Design of smart electronic guide for pilgrim.

He is currently an Associate Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department and the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs for Advising and Counseling at KFUPM. 

Dr Sheikh Sharif Iqbal has completed his BSc (1990) degree in ‘Electrical and Communication Engineering‘ from University of San Carlos, MSc (1992) degree in Communication Engineering and Digital Electronics‘ and PhD Degree (1996) in Electrical Engineering‘ from University of Manchester, UK. He has authored 36 referred journal/conference papers, 15 referred technical reports and completed 9 funded projects. He is a senior member of IEEE and Honorary Treasurer of IET Saudi Section. His achievements includes several awards related to teaching, research and supporting student activities.

His research work is based on modeling, simulation and when possible experimental verification of gyrotropic control circuits and antennas for RF/microwave/millimeter-wave devices. His recent research interest involves modeling the front end of microwave sensors, which integrates gyrotropic control devices with compact, switchable, wideband and/or multi-frequency planar antennas. 

Dr. Ahmed Yamani received a First Class B. Eng. and a Ph.D Degrees from the Electrical and Electronic Department of the University of Sheffield, UK. He then acquired a wide experience and expertise in the area of nondestructive testing (NDT) when he directed the NDT and Welding Division of the Higher Commission for Research (HCR), Algiers. Dr. Yamani had undergone excessive training in NDT in Europe and is certified to level III in NDT. Since 1988, he joined King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in which he holds the rank of associate professor of Electrical Engineering. Beside his academic and research activities, he coordinated many NDT short courses, and acted as a consultant for the Saudi Bechtel company (SABCO), VETCO, and Saudi Transformer company. In summer 2002, he trained BECHTEL NDT technicians to use the WELSONIX Automated Ultrasonic equipment (REVOLUTION) to test the newly erected 830 km of pipelines in Algeria
Dr. Yamani is listed in Who is who in the world, Who is Who in Science and Engineering. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a member of the American Society of NDT (ASNDT), and a member of the New York Academy of Science (NYAS). 

Azzedine Zerguine received the B.Sc. degree from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, in 1981, the M.Sc. degree from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in 1990, and the Ph.D. degree from Loughborough University, Loughborough, UK, in 1996, all in electrical engineering. From 1981 to 1987, he was working with different Algerian state owned companies. During the period from 1987 to 1990, he was a research and teaching assistant, Electrical Engineering Department, KFUPM. Dr. Zerguine is presently an Associate Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, KFUPM, working in the areas of signal processing and communications. Dr. Zerguine is the recipient of two KFUPM best teaching awards in 2000 and 2005.

Dr. Zerguine is a Senior Member of IEEE and currently he is serving as an associate editor with the EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing.

Dr. Zerguine research interests include adaptive filtering, signal processing for communications, neural networks, multiuser detection, and interference cancellation. 

Salam A. Zummo was born in 1976 in Saudi Arabia. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in 1998 and 1999, respectively. He received his PhD degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, USA, in June 2003. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department and the Dean of Graduate Studies at KFUPM. He is also the Coordinator of the Communications, Electronics and Optics National Science and Technology Program at KFUPM.

Dr. Zummo was awarded Prince Bandar Bin Sultan Award for early PhD completion in 2003, and the British Council/BAE Research Fellowship Award in 2004 and 2006. He has more that 50 publications in international journals and conference proceedings in the area of wireless communications including error control coding, diversity techniques, MIMO, iterative receivers, multiuser diversity, multihop networks, user cooperation, interference modeling and networking issues for wireless communication systems. Dr. Zummo is a Senior Member of the IEEE.

Dr. Mohamed Adbul-Haleem received the B.Sc. Eng. degree from University of Peradeniya, Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, with specialization in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, in 1990, the M.Phil. degree from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Honk Kong University of Science and Technology, Clear Water Bay, Kowloon, Hong Kong, in 1995, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, USA, in 2006.

Dr. Abdul-Haleem has been a lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Peradeniya from 1990 to 1993. He has been with the Wireless Communications Research Department, Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies, Crawford Hill, Holmdel, NJ, USA, from 1996 to 2002 as a visiting research scholar and a Member of Technical Staff (MTS) working on dynamic resource assignment, fixed wireless systems, channel adaptive techniques and protocols, and multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) wireless systems. Following the completion of the Ph.D. program, Dr. Abdul-Haleem has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, USA until August 2007. In this position he has conducted research studies in distributed data compression and encryption in sensor networks. He has been a Research Associate at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ, USA from September 2007 till July 2009, and has carried out research in MIMO radar. Dr. Abdul Haleem has several published work in international journals and conferences since 1992. He also has published book  chapters and granted patents.

Abdallah Said Al-Ahmari received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in 1991 and 1994 respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), Atlanta, USA in 2003.

He is currently an assistant professor with the Electrical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. His main area of interest includes design and performance of turbo codes, coded modulation for wireless infrared and optical communications, and radiolocation techniques. 

Dr. S. Z. Alakhdhar has received his BSc. and MSc from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Saudi Arabia, in 1982 and 1983, respectively. He received his PhD. from the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA, in 1989. He worked in industry for Saudi ARAMCO in the Oil Terminal Maintenance, Geophysics, The Process & Control Systems, and in the IT Departments. His major interest is digital signal processing. His research includes applications of DSP in NDT, Neural Networks, and CDMA communications systems. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at KFUPM. 

Dr. Badr Abdullah graduated in 2004 with a Master of Engineering honors degree (MEng) in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the University of Liverpool (UK). His Master project was awarded best project for the year 2004 (Farnel-In-One Award). He obtained his Doctorate in December 2007 from the same University. His Doctorate research was in collaboration with TWI (Cambridge, UK.) After spending one year as a Research Associate at the University of Liverpool he joined the Electrical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) as an Assistant Professor. His main research areas are; Electronics, Vision Systems and Technological Plasmas. 

Chokri Ahmed Belhaj received his B.Sc from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1985 and M.Sc from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in 1988 both degrees are in Electrical Engineering. He earned his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique of Montreal, University of Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1996. He worked for the Research Institute, KFUPM, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in several power system projects. He was involved with Hydro-Quebec Research Institute, Montreal, Canada in several power system analysis projects. Since 1996, he is working as an Assistant Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at KFUPM. His areas of interest are high voltage engineering, electric and magnetic fields studies and impact on human health, electromagnetic transient investigations analysis, power system analysis and modeling. 

Samir Al-Ghadhban was born on 1975 in Khobar, Saudi Arabia. In 1997, he was awarded Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with highest honors from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). In 2000, he received his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from KFUPM with focus on wireless communications. In 2000, he received a scholarship from KFUPM and joined Virginia Tech PhD program in Electrical Engineering.

On Dec. 2005, he received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech with focus on MIMO wireless systems. His current interests are in MIMO systems, space frequency time coding, and scheduling. 

Dr. Muhammad Ali Al-Gahtani received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in 1994 and 1997 respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from University of Manchester (UMIST) in 2003. He is currently an assistant professor with the Electrical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
Dr. Muhammad has over 20 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings. His research interests include: Mixed-Mode Integrated circuits design, nonlinear electronic circuits and systems and Low-power design.

Alaa Hussein was born in Cairo, Egypt, on April 13, 1970. He received the B.Sc. degree and the M.Sc. degree in electronics and communications engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo, in 1992 and 1996, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in 2002. He joined KFUPM in 2003. His current research interests include Analog Processing Unit, and Frequency Synthesizers. 

Dr. Mahmoud Kassas is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. He received his M.Sc and Ph.D. degrees from Vanderbilt University in 1986 and 1991, respectively, in electrical engineering with a specialization in power electronics and motor drives. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Aleppo University, Aleppo, Syria in 1979. Since joining KFUPM in 1994, Dr. Kassas has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical power systems, control systems and electrical machines, and have been actively involved in both basic and applied research in the area of power systems, power electronics and electronics properties.
Dr. Kassas’s research interests are in power systems, power electronics, power quality, electronics material properties and the integration of alternative energy sources into power networks. He is actively involved in research with more than 25 refereed journal and conference publications/presentations.
Currently, Dr. Kassas is the co-investigator of many research projects. Over 12 funded research projects were funded by Ministry of Water, & Electricity, Saudi Electricity Company, SABIC, and KFUPM.
Dr. Kassas is an invited reviewer for the Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering and King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology (KACST). He has been a senior member of IEEE since January 10, 2004.. 

Dr. Wail A. Mousa is currently working as an assistant professor the Electrical Engineering Department, Kind Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), teaching various signal processing courses and supervising students.

Prior joining the university, he was working as a research scientist on applied signal processing for geology and geophysics at the Schlumberger Dhahran Carbonate Research (SDCR). Dr. Mousa was the first Saudi to be sponsored by SDCR for a PhD degree which he obtained at the School of Electronics & Electrical Engineering at the University of Leeds. He also holds two B.Sc degrees with honors (one in EE and the other was in Mathematical Sciences) and a MSc in EE from KFUPM. Prior to joining Schlumberger, he was a graduate assistant at KFUPM and then promoted to Lecturer.

Dr. Mousa is an active researcher and publishes regularly. He is a member of many international and local professional organizations. In late 2006, he was honored to represent both Saudi Arabia and Schlumberger in the first World Petroleum Council-Youth Committee (WPC-YC) and, then, in early 2007 he became the vice-chair of this first WPC-YC. He became chairman of the WPC-YC in June this year. 

Ali Hussein Muqaibel received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in 1996 and 1999 respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA in 2003.

He worked as a laboratory engineer and then as a lecturer at KFUPM from 1996 to 2000. During his study at Virginia Tech, he worked both for the Time Domain and RF Measurements Laboratory, and for the Mobile and Portable Radio Research Group (MPRG). He is currently an assistant professor with the Electrical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. His main area of interest includes measurements for channel characterization and ultra wideband communication. 

Dr. Khurram Karim Qureshi received a BSc degree with honors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan, in 1999 and a PhD degree also in Electrical Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong in 2006, respectively. His research interests are in the areas of all-optical signal processing using optical fiber/semiconductor based devices, gain clamping techniques in optical amplifiers, optical performance monitoring, fiber lasers and fiber sensors.

Ali Al-Shaikhi was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 1973. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in 1997 and 2001, respectively. He received the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Dalhousie university, Halifax, Canada, in 2008. His PhD dissertation was in the area of digital communication in which packet codes were designed and the use of coding was exploited to reduce PAPR in OFDM systems.

From 1997 to 2001, he was a Graduate Assistance at KFUPM, Department of Electrical Engineering. In 2001, he was promoted to the rank of Lecturer at the same Department working in the communication laboratory. In June, 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant professor at the same department.

He got the following scholarships several times: the faculty of graduate study (FGS) at Dalhousie University Scholarship and Bruce and Dorothy Rosetti Engineering Research Scholarship. He also received a travel grant award of the 5th Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR), May, 2007. He was awarded KFUPM scholarship to pursue his Ph.D. degree overseas.

Dr. Ali Al-Shaikhi's research interests rely on the areas of communication theory, digital communications, signal processing, and computer networks. He has a number of publications in respected conferences and journals. 

Dr. Mohammad S. Sharawi is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He was a Research Scientist with the Applied Electromagnetics and Wireless Laboratory in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Oakland University, Michigan, USA, during 2008-2009. Dr. Sharawi was a faculty member in the Computer Engineering Department at Philadelphia University, Amman, Jordan, during 2007-2008. He was the acting head of the Computer Engineering Department at the German-Jordanian University in Amman, Jordan During 2006-2007. He served as the Organization Committee Chair of the IEEE Conference on Systems, Signals and Devices that was held in Jordan in July 2008.

Dr. Sharawi obtained his obtained his B.Sc. degree in Electronics Engineering with highest honors from Princess Sumaya University for Technology in Amman - Jordan in 2000. He got his M.Sc. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan - USA in 2002 and 2006, respectively. He was an exchange student during the academic year of 1997/1998 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was an Intern with Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI), Mountain View, California - USA, during the summers of 1998, 2001 and 2002, were he worked on various circuit design and interconnect modeling projects. He became a Member of Technical Staff - Design Engineer with SGI during 2002-2003, were he was responsible of modeling, design and verification of high speed PCBs and circuits for various high performance computing systems.

Dr. Sharawi's research interests include RF electronics and Antenna Arrays, Applied Electromagnetics, Physical Layer of Wireless Communications and Hardware/ Embedded Systems design.

Ahmed Abdul Quadeer obtained his B.E. degree in Electronic Engineering with honors from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan in 2006. He obtained his MS degree in Electrical Engineering with majors in Communication and Signal Processing from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in 2008. In 2006, he worked as an Executive Engineer in the NSS (Network Switching Subsystem) department of UFONE, a leading telecommunication company, in Pakistan for six months. He is currently working as a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering department at KFUPM. His major areas of interest include channel estimation and multiuser detection in OFDM, and application of signal processing in communication and seismology.

Muhammad Saqib Sohail obtained his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (majors in Communications and Electronics) with honors in Jan 2005 from the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. He was a project engineer for NASCO, dealers of Motrolla in Saudi Arabia before joining the Electrical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) as a Research Assistant in September 2006. He completed his Masters in Electrical Engineering with majors in communication and DSP in June 2008. The courses that he has taken include Stochastic Processes, Digital Communications, Adaptive Filtering, Wireless and Personnel Communication, Digital Image Processing and Simulation of Communication Systems. His research interests include wireless communication systems, seismic signal processing, OFDM systems, adaptive filtering and its application to wireless systems. Currently he is working as a radio network optimization engineer at Huawei.
