Ph.D. Comprehensive Examination

The Ph.D. student must take the written part of the Comprehensive Examination within the two semesters immediately following the Entrance Examination.

The examination consists of two parts. The first is a written examination which is set on the basis of the selected major and minor areas and NOT on course taken in these areas. The second part is an oral examination which is based on the research work and its proposal. It must be taken not later than the end of semester following the semester in which the written part was attempted.

The examination will be graded by all members according to a certain policy for passing or failing adopted and agreed upon before the examination and reported to the graduate committee.
A detailed report on the examination and its grades will be submitted to the Chairman of the Department. A copy is to be kept in the student's file and another one is to be sent to the Graduate Committee.

On the basis of this examination, a student may be admitted to the Doctorate Degree candidacy. A graduate student is allowed to take the comprehensive examination twice only.
