Welcome to the telecommunication research laboratory (TRL) @ KFUPM ...

The TRL consists of three groups: Systems and Concepts, Product Development, and Measurements and Evaluation.

The Activities of the Systems and Concepts Group are directed towards the development of new techniques and procedures for use in current and future telecommunications systems. The group proves the viability of the new techniques and procedures by theoretical research and computer simulations. this group is a source of new knowledge which may be used by the researchers and industrial partners to help attain a leadership in the area of telecommunications.

The Product Development Group has been entrusted with the task of transforming the new techniques and procedures into prototypes of telecommunication products or sub-systems. the focus will be on using state-of-the art technologies such as DSP and FPGA in the development of prototypes whose performance exceeds that of currently available units at reasonable cost.

The Measurement and Evaluation Group is assigned the task of conducting filed trials to evaluate telecommunication systems for performance, quality of service, suitability to the environment and so on. The measurements could include traffic studies, network routing, suitability of new applications, radio coverage analysis, cellular system quality of service, etc. This group also provides consultancy services to industry.

The TRL will play a vital role in strengthening collaboration between academia and industry. Such collaboration will strengthen teaching and research at KFUPM.
