General Information for PEP Students

What is the English Proficiency Test?

It is a test that measures your general level in English Language. This is called your level of Proficiency.

We need to know the level of your English so that we can guide and support you.

You need to know the level of your English so that you can decide how best to improve your own skills in English.

How does it measure my level of English?

We test your grammar, vocabulary and reading skills and from this we can estimate your general level of English. You will get a score out of 100. We will explain more about this later.

How long does the test take?

The complete test takes about two hours. It has three sections - Grammar, Vocabulary and Reading - all of which have equal marks. See the EPT website http://www.kfupm.edu.sa/ept under Test Description for details of the test.

Why is English important?

English is very important to you in KFUPM. If your English is weak, you will have difficulty in keeping up with your Major studies. Therefore, you need to take English seriously and do your best to improve it. Remember that you will succeed through your own efforts, not just through what you do in the classroom.

When will I do the test?

PEP students will take the test at the end of each semester.

Should I take the test seriously?

YES! The test is very important to you.

It will count for 10% of the final grade for 001 and 20% for 002.
