Petroleum Engineering Laboratories

Fluid Properties Laboratory

Name Fluid Properties Laboratory

Objectives:

  1. To teach the students to measure the reservoir fluid properties.

  2. To provide research facilities to faculty and graduate students.

Location Building 2 Room 113
Functions

The main function of this laboratory is to study the behavior of hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon fluids, besides basic and applied research in this area. The facility is capable of the following:

  1. Complete pressure-volume-temperature analysis of systems such as bottomhole or recombined samples of crudes and natural gases. These analyses result in the determination of bubble point and dew point pressures, GOR, viscosities, compressibilities, and densities.
  2. Determination of impurities such as hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide in crude oil and natural gas.
Major Equipments
  1. Digital Tensiometer

  2. Rolling ball Viscometer

  3. Oswald kinematic Viscosity Heating bath

  4. Brookfield Viscometer

  5. PVT system
