Center for Petroleum & Minerals

Dr Majed

Message from the Director I am pleased to briefly introduce the Center for Petroleum & Minerals on behalf of our dedicated professional staff members and our many colleagues from the University’s academic departments who together execute some of the most challenging research studies of benefit to the upstream oil and gas, and mining industries.  The Center has been recognized as a leading research center in the Gulf primarily serving major oil and gas companies in the region for over more than 30 years.

The Center is organized in three main sections: (i) oil and gas engineering; (ii) petroleum geology and geophysics; and (iii) remote sensing.

In oil and gas engineering, our focused research is on optimizing the production of oil and gas through improved understanding of (i) reservoir characterization; (ii) reservoir engineering; (iii) production engineering; (iv) petrophysics; and (v) petroleum-related rock-mechanics.

In petroleum geology and geophysics, we are CPMconcerned with maximum utilization of available knowledge in detection and delineation of oil and gas bearing geologic strata.

In remote sensing, we have the capability of providing satellite image processing, and image analysis and interpretation expertise for (i) petroleum exploration; (ii) geological mapping; (iii) environmental impact assessment; and (iv) coastal mapping.

Most of the research projects carried out at the Center are interdisciplinary and allow the rich human and laboratory resources of different centers, as well as those of the University academic departments to be utilized to achieve optimum solutions.
