General Presidency for the Holy Mosque requests the assistance of King Fahd University to conduct researches and studies of Hajj and Umrah and crowd management


In its headquarter in Mecca On Sunday  15th May 2016, the General Presidency for the Holy Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque and King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals signed a memorandum of understanding by which authorize the university to conduct scientific research and carry out scientific, technical and media consultancy studies for the presidency. The University will also implement research studies related to Hajj and Umrah and execute training programs and internal scholarship. KFUPM will be involved in the proposal for strategic plans and in the implementation of research related to the organization and management of crowds and to translate the presidency's Arabic publications into other languages.
The memorandum of understanding will allow Saudi students and others to participate in the translation and exchange of information and to cooperate with the Research and Studies Centre, the Scientific Centre & Heritage Revival and the Studies Center in the presidency, as well as the coordination in the field of development & rehabilitation and to induce the activation of quality and excellence.
In the signing ceremony, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Bin Abdulaziz Al Sudais, General President of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque Affairs, represented the presidency and Dr. Khaled S. Al-Sultan, KFUPM Rector represented the University.
Dr. Khaled Al-Sultan, KFUPM Rector said that the renewable five years memorandum of understanding help to support the message is performed by the Presidency in servicing the pilgrims, umrah Performers and visitors of the Two Holy Mosques committed to the directives of our government, which always emphasizes doing that maximum efforts and providing all capabilities for pilgrims to perform their rituals with ease and tranquility. It, also, runs from the pioneering role of King Fahd University of Petroleum & minerals as a scientific institution and a beacon of knowledge in the area of ​​research, consulting, training and from its capabilities through scientific research centers, colleges and specialized institutes.
Dr. Al Sultan said that our government has given special attention to the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque due to their great place in the hearts of Muslims. The  Kingdom, since its inception, was committed to provide the best services to the growing numbers of pilgrims and umrah performers and stressed this mission in its vision of the future (2030) , which include increasing the services system capacity and improve its quality, and to enable more than 15 million Muslims performing umrah annually by the year (2020) and to (30) million pilgrims by 2030, taking on consideration their high satisfaction with the offered services by facilitating procedures and enable them to enrich their religious journey and cultural experience.
The General Presidency for the Holy Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque was able to fulfill its duty in the service of the two holy mosques with all effort and dedication, but at the same time took the initiative in launching an important project to maintain its leadership and excellence in efficiency and quality of performance, in response to the requirements of the Kingdom vision of (2030), and to the ambitious stage of our beloved country, expressing the unique reputation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia locally and globally. In this regard, an initiative to develop a strategic plan for the presidency works with the partnership of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals in accordance with a comprehensive vision and successful scientific bases in this field.
Dr. Al Sultan explained that the cooperative partnership between the presidency and the university and its selection for this important project is an honor for the university because of the status of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque and the honor of servicing the pilgrims, umrah performers and visitors. It also strengthens the role of the university and its national responsibility, and expresses the local and global confidence enjoyed by the university.
As a part of fulfilling its responsibilities and mission, KFUPM employed the bulk of its accumulated experience in servicing the nation and its institutions through hundreds of research projects and studies carried out over the past fifty years. KFUPM prepared a lot of strategic plans such as A Future Plan for University Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (AAFAQ), the strategic planning project to develop the Kingdom Judiciary and Authentication Facility (Adel) and the strategic project of the Presidency of the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Hisbah).
For the success of such projects, the University assigned teams of specialists in multiple disciplines through the Research Institute Center for Studies &Strategic Planning in addition to seeking help of local and global experts and advisers.
