Title: Workshop on Online Collaboration, Moderation, Teaching & Learning, Interactive & Communication Tools Date: 13th March 2006 Time: 08:30 AM - 03:30 PM (Lunch Included) Venue: Building 20 Presenter : Professor David Ross, Professor and Chair of Flexible Delivery at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Australia. Details: The Application of Collaboration tools is one of the most commonly used pedagogical techniques in the online environment. Collaboration and communication tools are widely used because they can promote several types of thinking-and certain types of thinking especially those characterized as constructivist, are important in education. Proper attention to the design, facilitation, and maintenance of an online instructional methodology implementing Collaboration and communication tools are critical to promote students' constructive thinking. Questioning is a significant instructional design element for the promotion of effective use of a variety of Collaboration tools. This workshop will describe a theoretical framework for designing activities for starting online discussion and follow-up questions to maintain the discussion. This framework is placed within a broader context of discussion within a constructivist, online environment. Several examples of discussion activities which were gathered from experienced online instructors will be presented with the goal of preparing students and teachers to participate effectively in online discussions. Students and lectures today move faster and work under more pressure than ever before to keep up with the every increasing body of knowledge. To help expedite information sharing and to accelerate decision making, students and lectures are using new tools – tools that are changing our definition of the online delivery of quality education. I will discuss a few of what can be called knowledge management tools:
These tools fall
under the general heading of collaboration tools or knowledge management
software. This workshop will be an overview of what these tools are and how they
are being used effectively. Note: Cheque should be made payable to "KING FAHD UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM & MINERALS". Cash not accepted. Register for this pre-workshop event
