Two KFUPM’s teams accomplished first and second places in the national competition in computer programming, attended by students from computer and information colleges in the Kingdom. The contest was held as part of the events of the "Second National Conference for Computer Colleges in Saudi Universities”, which aims to raise the performance level of the computer and information colleges in Saudi universities through ideas and shared experiences.
Forty student teams (including 119 students) from computer colleges of different universities competed at the Conference, which was held from 22 to 23 February 2017, at the University of Ha’il. The contest lasted 4 hours, where KFUPM’s two teams scored first and second places, while all the other universities compete for third place.
The contest included ten software problems, out of which seven were solved by the three winning teams during the four hours. The self-arbitration system considers several factors to find the result, including delivery speed, the number of attempts, and others.
This year's results were similar results achieved last year, where KFUPM’s two teams took first and second places, and King Abdulaziz University’s student team scored third place.
The coaches of the two KFUPM’s teams, Dr. Khalid Al-Jasser, Chairman of computer sciences department, and Mr. Yahya Garout, a faculty member in the computer science department, praised the students’ efforts in training and preparing for this competition over the past 12 months. They also thanked the University’s administration, represented by the Rector and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, for supporting this initiative of the Department.
It is worth mentioning that this conference aims to develop curricula and study plans in accordance with international standards and the labor market and domestic and international accreditation requirements. Furthermore, the conference aims at suggesting ideas and contributions to support faculty development programs in computer and information colleges, in addition to creating opportunities for partnership and cooperation in specialized fields between colleges and information technology companies.
